What was the worst job you ever had?

Unprofessional and nepotistic manager

I’m asking for advice so that I don’t shoot myself in the foot while also standing up for myself Long story short I’m searching for an engineering job. but a friend referred me to a job that I could work in the meantime. Without giving too much details of the workplace it’s a 24/7 operation job with about 30sites in the city. In order to work at a site you need to be orientated for that site. A lot of my coworkers have noticed that the individuals with the most amount of shifts and the best shifts are all close friends of the operations manager and they were all brought from out of town. People that went to highschool or played professional sports together. Whenever I ask said manager for more shifts or orientations he’s always stalling and saying “he’ll keep me in the loop” I just found out that…

I’m a union member, I still got fired for reporting a workplace injury, and disclosing that I’m pregnant.

A week ago I reported an injury, as per company policy. I was assured that this enormous company doesn’t fire people for reporting injuries and that safety is their #1 priority. The senior project manager even came to talk to me and assure me that accommodations would be made and that she was exited to have a pregnant person on site. She even got personal and told me about her experience as a pregnant person out in the field. I went back to work, and things were getting hostile from my journeyman. I let my superintendent that working in that area wasn’t going to help me heal, I was assured he was working on moving me to a place where I’d be able to have modified work. I went to see a doctor Monday, I was switched to modified work with a doctors note. Everything seemed good, I was actively…

Overworked and frustrated, I feel stuck.

I work at an establishment that offers loans to people through the items they bring, as well as a typical retail experience where we resell items too. It is a very social job, one that leaves me angry, stressed, and overwhelmed. I was hired as a part-timer. I’m good at my job, and now I do a lot more than what’s really required which is honestly a mistake and I’ve gotten tired of it. New hires don’t last long. This company constantly moves people around to different store locations for no reason other than many assistant managers and employees leaving. So now, my location is short-staffed where only two people manage a store most days of the week and I’m filling in, working full time hours (with NO benefits because I was hired as part-time) AND stepping into an assistant manager role. It’s gotten to a point where I struggle…

Why do people work long hours?

Wednesday I worked from about 9:30am to 8pm. Yesterday I worked from just before 9am to 7pm. I feel drained. This was definitely a one-off and my decision. It actually makes me appreciate my ‘normal’ hours where I am start at 9:30-10am, sometimes even later, and leave before 5pm. This morning I’m making up my hours. I’m going to exercise in the morning, come in for 11am and leave at 4pm. I’m also taking my full hour lunch break. Two days of, what I consider, long hours. I hear in high finance or banking roles it can be starting from 7am and 11pm, with no opportunity to ‘make up hours’ like I can. Why? I do an extra 2-3 hours and I just can’t do it. The money isn’t worth the cost of time and my health. Life is too short for this every single day.

16 year old here, just got my first job. What the hell?

I will be keeping the location I applied to hidden, just an FYI. I'm honestly thinking about backing out now due to how the interview went. This happened about a week ago, and I applied to a fast food restaurant. I went during their lunch hour, which is always busy. The manager came out about 20 minutes late. I don't know if this is due to their lunch rush, or the manager just wanting to see if I'd stick around to see how desperate I was for a job, but either way that's ridiculous. Why schedule the interview during your lunch rush if it's always busy anyway? Prior to the interview, I prepared myself with questions and answers that a basic interview will have. Once the interview was over, I could say I was asked NONE of the questions that I prepared myself for. Yes, I understand it's just fast…
