Introduction I've worked in the Food & Beverage Industry for almost 10 years now and I never thought it'd get this bad. For years I've used a website that posts job openings for National Parks, Lodges, Resorts and more that offer either free housing or for a few hundred dollars a month. Interview This restaurant located in Alaska posted on the website a job opening that I applied for and I got hired. During the interview I was told about how housing is amazing, private and how much it costs monthly as well as how the job is and their busy months during the summer season and so on. A arrival date was set to be picked from the airport and brought to the property. Where things started to go south Upon getting picked up from the airport in Alaska I met one of the owners which is who drove…

Anticipating solidarity
Recently I took a job as a letter carrier with USPS, and of course I’m ecstatic to be union as well. But the union steward at my local station is a little old fashioned and is more reactive than anything. I asked if there are any NALC/ APWU (2 different postal workers’ unions) plans to stand in solidarity with upcoming UPS strikes, or if Amazon workers strike, and he shrugged. Full disclosure, USPS strictly CANNOT strike. So I’d like to pose the same question here, and then some. What can/should solidarity look like if/when UPS workers strike? If Amazon workers strike? How can federal carriers best support other carriers? I always go out of my way to offer water when I see other carriers on the street, and I ask their opinions/concerns about our line of work. It’s difficult to gauge because I’m just one person talking to another, neither…
I work in marketing and have an offer at a new company where I will not be performing substantially the same work. This is in my offer letter for the new place: “By accepting this offer, you confirm that you are able to accept this job and carry out the work involved without breaching any legal restrictions on your activities, such as restrictions imposed by a current or former employer. You also confirm that you will inform [redacted] about any such restrictions and provide [redacted] with as much information about them as possible, including copies of any agreements between you and your current or former employer describing such restrictions on your activities.”
Got my first job earlier this year…
Title. Sorry if this kind of post isn't allowed. It was pretty hard because I'm barely 20, have no prior experience and .. let’s say my education background “isn’t promising to potential employers”. But back in April, I finally got one! A barista for a little local place that serves desserts and coffee. I thought I was going in for an interview with someone (let’s call her C), turns out she hired me on the spot. Bit of a red flag but whatever. I was happy to finally have a job after hearing nothing back from anywhere else for months on end. Met the other 6 people they hired, too. I worked my first shift end of April, trained by another manager, (let’s call her K) and everything went great. K told me during the shift she already did the schedule for next week so I’d be on the one…
So I canceled every meeting and told my subordinates tomorrow is a “telework” day.
keep an eye out for the results of the audit! love seeing city officials take action (for once)
Feeling Burned Out and Discouraged
I recently graduated high school in May, and I feel extremely burnt out and tired of my construction job. I have worked with this contractor (just him and I) since I was 17 and still in vocational high school. I have been with him for about 9 months now. I started at 15 dollars an hour for the first two months I worked for him as a “trial period” and was then given a raise to $17 an hour. I was happy with that at the time, but since then, I have gained lots of technical skills, and I can generally work on my own most of the time, and I often do work on my own for at least 8-16 hours of the work week. I have also gained a lot of responsibility, driving my own truck to pick up materials, and I have even been asked to supervise…
