Asked about pay

Got done with my Welding gig I had for about 1.5year, longest job I’ve ever had. Had asked yesterday when the pay raises would happen. Was told that they only happen when the boss feels like it. Still haven’t had(Along with all of the hourly employees) any cost of living adjustments throughout my 1.5years. We all know what’s been going on within the US(and abroad) within that period. All while someone who had been there about 6.months gets a new job title, who I had been training. What a joke

Should I game the system to get back at terrible management?

So I have quite a few issues with my work. I’m a worker at a 60-year old pool facility with horrible safety management. Everyday something breaks in the filter room. Chlorine levels are constantly too high and filters stop working, people shit in the pool and all they do is put a band-aid on it. We run out of drinking water and they tell us to drink from the 60-year old taps that haven’t been serviced ever. We work long rotations in the blistering heat and there’s no way to cool down other than hopping in the pool and drenching ourselves. My manager here is also incredibly shitty and constantly cuts our shifts so that she can go home early. We miss out on money, even though we are willing to clean the shitty-ass facility. We get constant complaints it’s a disgusting facility, yet our manager takes away our ability…

Lost job 4 months back, new offer but wants background check

Hi all, I recently was let go about 4 months back from my last start up and finally received a decent offer. I passed the reference check and all, just got my offer letter and signed it. However it's contingent on me passing the background check, the recruiter mentioned its to ensure that I worked at where I said I have worked. Will a background check show that I have not been working for the last 4 months? I said on my resume I was still employed at my last place.

Experience over Formal Education

Don't get me wrong, I went to college for 4+ years, just never graduated due to extenuating life circumstances. But I have spent numerous years in a variety of positions, moving laterally, moving up, skipping positions by leaps and bounds due to on-the-job experience. I have a huge issue with companies that insist upon a degree rather than accepting life/work experience for that same role. If they'd rather hire someone straight out of college into a position rather than a weather-beaten veteran who knows the ins and outs of that position or industry, they may as well expect its going to cost them in the end. Rant over.

“We work together as a team”

Just want to vent for a minute about the guy I work for as a contractor through a marketing agency. I run the email campaigns for the company, and he's not the CEO but he is the guy I report to and work with. He keeps adding me to projects that are slightly out of scope for what I do (facebook advertising, Amazon channels, paid media in general.) I'm happy to partner with those channels and come at his marketing with a holistic approach, but he wants a lot of projects done and he refuses to act as a project manager. We'll have a couple of these integrated campaigns going but when I ask him basic management questions he always deflects and says I should ask so and so, who doesn't know either because there's no clear direction! I confronted him about this leadership style and how I thought his…

What a time to be alive that must’ve been

Absolutely incredible what these brave men and women were able to accomplish especially in a time before the internet. I’m proud of them for standing up for their rights and not backing down. Almost brings tears to my eyes to think that 50+ years later the American people are still struggling and still fighting for decent pay, conditions, rights, etc. No matter how much progress we make, we never really advance much…

Supposed pay rise

Don't you love it when you get an annual payrise? Of course it's not in line to inflation of about 7% increase from last year, but lesser than (so effectively being a pay decrease) And then, on top of your payrise, your medical insurance, that automatically comes out of your pay slip increases. So in effect, your payrise is lowered even more so. Also, why only one pay rise a year (if your work deems it acceptable) and yet all your bills/food/petrol/rent etc creeps up year round?

“Be less gay”

I got burned when I told my last supervisor to “shove her homophobia up her ass” when I was being “too gay.” To avoid this again, should I just comply or just ignore it?
