This post is partially to vent but also to ask for some advice. If you feel like giving advice but don’t feel like reading all that, just scroll to the third to last paragraph! I’m sorry in advance for the long read. TLDR at the bottom. I’m already set on quitting my job, the issue is I don’t know when, or how. This is my first job out of college. I work for the branch of a big company, our office is about 11 people. Everyone has a very specific role, we don’t have more than 2 people for one position. I am the ONLY one in my office that knows how to do what I do though. For the others’ positions there’s always another person that can help in some capacity, but for mine they had to outsource the work I do until I got hired a couple years…

Opinions on night work
Basically the title. What do you think of night work? Emergency services, heavy industries, fast food joints, convenience stores, grocery stores, trucking. Probably forgot some. I think night work should be very well compensated as it takes a heavy toll on health and life expectancy.
Retirement for me
I'm turning 61 in September. I've been underemployed for much of the past couple of years, struggling to keep myself afloat. You don't even know how sick I am of this job bullshit. Especially when you're old and can't even work a service job because of back and leg issues. So I have to make it one more year until I can retire. I am gonna make it through this year if it kills me. I was hoping to retire at 65 for more money, but I've had it. Still going to be working when I retire but at least I'll have a (crappy) monthly income and hopefully Medicare. Ultimate retirement plan is still suicide. 🤟 But not till I'm stuck in a bed for the rest of my life. I just hope I live long enough to see capitalism completely shut down. Anything's better than this.
So the Company I work at, won't name names because they stalk these subreddits, but they are a big player in the housing industry, announced yesterday that they are laying off hundreds of workers because the market “isn't good” meanwhile we find out today that our former CEO who was fired for sleeping with his subordinates got a 9 Million Dollar Bonus. HOW MANY JOBS would that have saved. SO instead of my friends and co-workers being able to feed their families and put a roof over their head, ONE GUY gets a 9 MILLION DOLLAR pay day after being fired for knocking up his intern. Gotta love 'merica.
I work in a medical facility, making $18.25 now. I should be making roughly $37k a year. After looking at my paycheck today and doing the numbers for 12 months, I only make $28k a year. Yes I have benefits, but they equate to around $70 every 2 weeks. I make close to what my salary used to be as as a host at Applebees basically, 8 years ago. What the hell? Edit: As some have commented; I understand there are taxes, but $9,000 of my salary that I work for is going to taxes, with taxes on every other single purchase I’d make – be it gas, food, clothes, amenities, etc. The point I’m trying to portray is exactly that: Taxes, inflation, etc. absolutely crush what sounds like a decent hourly pay. My, “what the hell” is in disbelief that I’m actually, essentially, making roughly $14/hr because we’re being…

Employee bio?? Mandatory??
Was kinda hoping the internet would have some fun with this: I am painter with no kids. Thanks.
THEY DONT OWN YOU
So many people don't realise you can say no. To anything! Unpaid overtime? No thanks. Working through lunch? No thanks.
I love seeing restaurants go under
I’ve worked in restaurants for a long time, at many different places. Everywhere is basically the same, owned and operated by little wannabe dictators. They always say nobody wants to work, but unemployment is at like 3% so that doesn’t even check out. People are just refusing to work these shitty jobs where they get treated like a serf. No time off, schedule changes at the last minute, 10 hour shifts with no break, hell most of the time I’ve been lucky if I even got to go to the bathroom. All for $10 an hour. The best part is, the few places that are well run and actually treat their staff like people, don’t seem to be struggling. But the remaining 80% would rather go under than take an objective look at themselves. And I absolutely love seeing my former employers lose everything. If you’re a restaurant worker, for…
