In the meantime, for the past year and a half I've been getting emails from my agency and even directly from schools essentially begging me to apply to teach. Sorry, Indiana, I won't live and teach in a state ok with regressing on LGBTQ rights. Good luck, though. It'll be a real shame if y'all end up having to teach/watch your own kids all day.

So basically, I applied to a Communications Assistant position and was told that my responsibilities and duties would be that of an “assistant” level position. Throughout the entire process, from beginning to end, including all interviews and onboarding, I was always told that this was a communications assistant position and the job was advertised as such. I was never told anything different at any point in time. Knowing that, I negotiated the salary based on those responsibilities and job title. Due to salary transparency laws, a pay range was posted however, I still negotiated based on said “assistant” job title and associated responsibilities with that title. However, after spending thousands of dollars myself to relocate for this job and being hired, I was told by my boss that there is no such thing as a “communications assistant” and that the only classification for this job, according to HR, is a…
Hey folks, quick story here. I feel like we all learn a lot and become more perceptive of BS at the workplace as we go along. This is one of those stories and to also, bet on yourself. I worked at my previous job for nearly 4 years. I work in tech, specializing in the semiconductor industry and mediate sales between contracted clients. I was building and working the same account at a previous job that had a 25 year relationship with the major account and this position I took was just starting out with them: loved the challenge and opportunity to use my network to build an account from $0 to a solid number. Our team was me and my program manager….for 3 of those years. Because he was fresh out of college and I am just a hungry account manager, we were perfect for the roles. The company…
Unrealistic: You go to work and only the top 3 performers get paid More realistic: You go to work and the top three performers get bonuses but you being the top 50th still gets a paycheck the same as the 4th and lower. Participation trophy culture is much more realistic than only rewarding the top 1/2/3.
Better late than never, Wendy’s
I had a job working at Wendy's back in early December. Needless to say, it was a terrible experience for many reasons and I ended up not showing up after 3 days because the environment was THAT soul crushing to me. The managers talked down to me, customers would say one thing and then get mad when I couldn't mind read the fact that they wanted another thing, and there was even a very loud argument between the manager and one of my coworkers over something that I can't even remember. Not only that, but I didn't even get a break for my full first day there (8 hours) for whatever reason. Maybe they thought I didn't need one since I spent the first 3-4 hours watching “training videos” but that's still considered working since I'm getting paid to do it. Still, I might've handled at least a full week…
Fired for nothing before starting
Just spent 3 months applying to jobs with the only one offering me a job being a pizza shop we'll call Doringo's. Had an issue with the DMV where registration was filed but the sticker never sent. Couldn't work til I had the sticker. Spent the last 3 weeks running around trying to get it taken care of, around the DMV being closed 6-7 days of the week (rural area, plenty of storm-related-outtages) I finally get all my papers together and info sent and the boss hits me with “I don't have any hours for you, good luck to you” “No OnE wAnTs To WoRk AnYmOrE”
“If you need to sit, you can’t work”
I just got fired before my third day of a new job even started because I asked for a stool accommodation for my disability. I was told that a stool is not something they can accommodate for any disability, and if I have to sit (even just for like .4 seconds to get off my feet for a moment), I can’t work.
To anyone considering manufacturing…
I spent 12 years as a chef, doing the hardest work I've ever done. We're talking 50 hours a week as standard. Note- best shape of my life, could lift mountains. I moved on to manufacturing and got crippled in 2 years. People are not built to move like robots. Repetitive strain injury is a REAL hazard. I thought I was invincible. Now I live on disability until the NHS gets round to fixing me. Its been over 3 years
Any advice is appreciated, I’ve been losing sleep over this. Long story short, I had been looking to leave my current job due to unorganized management (I was annoyed because I would usually be the guy left to deal with it or else issues wouldn’t get fixed) and regular job issues (understaffing lol). After a few months of on and off searching and a few job interviews, I had landed a job offer at a small business that seems to have a positive environment, however it pays less. This wasn’t an issue at first, so I put in my two weeks notice at my current job. I am now one week into it and I find out that my partners job is severely cutting their hours. I can no longer afford to hop to this other job. I had already signed the contract. There is no set length for time…
