Fired after 10 years from a business I helped build (rant, vent)

Just before the new year, my mom was diagnosed with dementia. I was the head chef of a small neighborhood bar. I have known my boss (the owner) for over 25 years. When he bought the place, I completely redid the menu and the kitchen. Everything from scratch. We made it through the pandemic. His business thrived because of my menu. When I got my mom's diagnosis, I asked for a brief leave so that I could deal with placing my mom in a home. I am alone in this and have no idea what I'm doing or how long it could take. I didn't think it would be an issue because we've helped other employees through worse before. He told me I should quit, and that he wasn't legally obligated to fulfill the FMLA requirements because it was a business with less than 40 employees. I did my best…

My prospective manager changed his mind during the second interview about letting me work 100% remote for a position that was advertised as 100% remote

I applied for a position for a company my employer works with, and I also know who would be the prospective manager for that company. The position was a carbon copy of my current job, same industry, does the same thing, but would be better pay and full remote. Right now my company is a boots to the ground kind of place, and wants their engineers, who could be working remote and shown that it can be done (let's forget the pandemic never happened), refuses to let us work fully remote. The first interview was a phone call with an HR guy and the prospective manager. Right at the beginning the HR guy brought up that they're getting used to the 50% remote schedule, and would like to know how I feel about that. I was caught off guard, but told them, I'm not looking to work a hybrid schedule,…

Calling off fucks over your coworkers. If you want a job you should be responsible.

Worker in the fast food industry here, I see a lot of posts of people who feel entitled to calling off whenever they want without good reason and act like there shouldn’t be any repercussions for their actions, many like to encourage them and tell them that there is nothing wrong about doing tha and they should not feel bad for calling off just because they don’t feel like working that day. This is such a dumb take. When you call off, you are screwing over your employer, which I know most people in this forum couldn’t care less about. I have no sympathy for the owner class, but you should understand that when you call off, you are ALSO screwing over your coworkers who have done nothing wrong. I have to regularly pick up slack for people who won’t show up for the dumbest reasons. It ruins my plans…

DELUSIONAL boss.

A few months ago I was assaulted at my work because this asshole kid felt “disrespected” by me because he tried to use authority over me that he didn’t have lmao. And my boss didn’t immediately fire him!!!! She wanted to “sit us down and see if we could work things out” no no no that fucker can walk. And then after he was fired it became a very short crew of just 5 people. And so sometimes I’d put in for a day on and she’s have the crutch “oh well (his name) isn’t here we are a “skeleton crew” so I need you here for your shift” and just always throwing ut up on my face and then she also had the nerve to say that it was partly my fault for using “inflammatory speech” . I could have told him to go fuck his mother with telephone…

Someone reacted on Linkedin because their boss would abuse their position to get special treatment over other employees. For reference, this is a pharmacy that only serves employees, yet the higher-ups would use their position to get special treatment over the other 83,000 employees.

Laid off 4 months ago because “the company wasn’t doing well” and just found them hiring for tons of positions, including my old one

Out of work for 4 months due to layoff because “the company wasn't doing well” and just saw hiring for my old position. My last job laid off all the contract workers due to issues at the company (even though last year profits were up 70%). I was less than two weeks from finishing my contract and getting hired on with a raise and my team was already stretched thin. Lo and behold, just found pages of positions on indeed the company is hiring for including the one I used to have. I'm livid. I feel weird about applying but I've had no luck finding a job and I have all the experience they want since I worked that position.

First Time working as a caregiver, worst experience I have ever had.

I have been working as a caregiver for 3 months and it is by far the worst job I have ever had. During my interview they made it seem like a great rewarding environment to work in, I asked for $20/hr because that is what most caregiver positions in my area start at. They ended up hiring me for swing shift and offered me barley over minimum wage. I agreed because I was in desperate need of a job but was not happy. At this facility it is memory care only and there are 8 units and each one can hold up to 13 residents and each unit has varying levels of intensity. Typically the lower the unit number the less intense it is. I did a couple days of training on the computer and then they immediately threw me in. I got almost zero hands on training and basically…

Yikes on trikes!

Weeeew do I have a story. In high school a restaurant in my rural town (I've since moved) was “always looking for and eager to interview new workers”. It's not that upscale but their dress code is “dressy yet casual” and as they put it “the only blazers should be on our staff” so this isn't a T-shirt and jeans place. I applied, handed in the application and the owner says “hey yeah I'll let Rachel know you're coming in for an interview. She'll be in the apartment upstairs.” So I arrive for an interview and she has NO clue who I am. When I tell her I was sent for an interview she looks at me and says “right right. I have a lot to do with this paperwork, I can't help you.” So I asked if I should come back, and her response was “I'm BUSY CATCHING UP…

Will You Work For Us?

A couple interesting questions asked while filling out an online application. I wonder what would happen if I selected no.
