I offered work from home from day 1 but my bosses are dinosaurs and they don’t like working with technology so it inconveniences them more if you’re working remotely (I’m a trainee lawyer). So this means that even though I’m on doctors orders not to move for a week they’re still fucking asking me to come back to the office because their own convenience matters more than my recovery clearly.
Month: July 2023
I apologize for this rant, but really looking for advice out of this situation. I'm not insane am I? I (29F) don’t even know where to start but wanted to get some help on how to proceed at my work, especially with my higher up (Director A) who has caused high turnover lately, I feel like I'm his next target for firing. He's been mentioning alot about how I'm not able to meet my deadlines as accurately as I used to, which I acknowledge. I do have depression and anxiety, but I go to therapy once a week and also try my best to get my work done despite this. Sometimes things fall through the cracks because I would get extremely busy, but no one else would manage the project with me or check in until it was way too late since majority of the time, we are overwhelmed—I end…
You don't have them yet. Stop trying to make us give a shit.
Played Hooky for a Concert
This happened a couple of months ago when I left/was leaving my job to move to a different state. Some background: Worked retail distribution as an office employee. It was a good job for a good company, though I was relieved to be leaving because I just don't think I'm made for in office desk work. I've always taken my attendance really seriously because of harsh bosses in the past, so I have never called in for anything short of serious illness or other emergency. I had accrued over 120 hrs of sick time and was leaving the company, so I finally convinced myself to play hooky to go to a concert a city away. It was the best night ever. I got to spend time with my wife and saw a small band I'd been introduced to on tiktok. Smoked a bunch of weed in this little venue surrounded…
2 jobs turned into 1
I was laid off on June 20th from a job I held for nearly 5 years (different positions throughout the years). My position was always permalance but I was a full time member of the staff. I asked for years to become full time to get PTO and benefits but never granted it. Eventually I just gave up because the job is pretty niche and the day rate was decent. The job was pretty dead end and I was looking to leave for a long time if I’m honest. My friend was always laid off on June 20th (same permalance situation, different role). Today they posted a job listed for a role that combines both my position and my friends position into one role. They essentially want the work of two people for the price of one. The best part? Since I wasn’t ever hired on full time (after 5…
30-Year-Old At Work
One of my coworkers who is quite a bit younger than me (about 30) told me today that she's formally quit. We work in a gloomy, rigid, highly-mannered office in Japan where you sit in the same chair for eight hours a day and it's completely open plan with no partitions or cubicles. Anyway, she told me she's had enough and said that, at thirty, she can feel her energy and life beginning to drain away. Said she wants to go and follow her dreams while she can. Now, when I was her age and I said things like that, older people would tell me I was still a baby and laugh. So I told this woman at work that she's absolutely correct, that time drains away from you at a frightening, seemingly accelerating rate after thirty, and that she was completely right to realise this sooner rather…
Crappy Decision
My manufacturing company in the UK has just announced that, beginning the next financial year, they will no longer be providing toilet paper in the staff toilets. Yes. I know. You definitely read that right. Apparently, due to a combination of three factors: 1) The Company has had a few bad years on the bounce 2) Staff have been 'using too much to effectively monitor' 3) Due to the cost of living crisis, we suspect staff have been taking rolls home. 6 months ago, they installed new holders that only um, deposit, a pre-set amount, but people just bought generic keys off Amazon to open them up and use human sized portions. Like I said, really crappy of them Edit: Spelling, wrote Amazin 🤦️ UPDATE: After everybody googling it and kicking off over the fact that it is a legal requirement to provide Toilet Paper, they have just released a…
I have designation letter stating that I can use fmla 1-4 days a month. It’s for my son, because he requires therapy. And today my manager and my company’s leave team told me that since my designation letter stated I can only take 1-4 days, it will be impossible to ask for couple hours off everyday since they count one day as one day regardless of how long, how many hours I was away at work. My son needs therapy everyday. It’s starts at 145. I’m suppose to start 1230. I asked if I can come in at 2pm so I can drop him off. The leave team suggested that I asked my son’s pediatrician to update my fmla and to put it more specific. I spoke to my union rep also. I just need someone to clarify this for me. Am in the wrong? I feel like I’m getting…
Last week my boss screamed at one of my coworkers for no reason at all. He does this from time to time, but also shoves meetings into your face 5mins before your shift is over and does other shit that is simply unacceptable. I am the only employee doing Cloud Computing in my company, and I decided to quit the following day. 3 days later and I already found something way better. My boss is fuming so hard rn because we have so many cloud projects in the making and it is a big % of our business. While talking to him he ofcourse shifted the blame towards me and said something along the lines of “how can you be so egoistic?”, saying he never did anything wrong. Now he wants to give the Cloud part to another employee that hasnt done anything cloudrelated in his lifetime. My condolences to…
Work can be made better
No one wants to go to work, including me, but I accept that work needs to be done. Someone has to be a doctor, a nurse, a mechanic, etc. If you enjoy the internet and gaming, someone has to make and maintain these. However, work can be made or broken by a bad system or a bad manager. Case in point, I work for a ward for the NHS…. I get 3 breaks, a 20 minute, a 40 minute, and another 20 minute. I am allowed a coffee whenever I want. I am allowed to control the flow of my own work load and the hours are flexible. The previous ward where I worked: Two breaks, a five minute (where you had to stay in the kitchen and was not allowed to sit down), a 30 minute. I was not allowed a coffee outside these breaks. Told what to do…
