I'm a low level manager of a sales support team (admin) for a healthcare company, working remotely. HR suddenly demanded that all 200+ employees who were onboarded remotely since 2020 and live in our county need to drive down to the office and verify their I-9 documents in-person next week. Our county is pretty big and I have an employee who lives far from the office, but within county lines. They don't have a car. HR has refused to cover this employee's travel expenses for the mandatory in-office document inspection, which I think could be up to $100+ for a rideshare – did I mention this employee doesn't have a car?? And no public transit will work for this. Our HR replied back to me “sorry it's a US govt requirement” with a smiley face in the email. Of course I'm going to reimburse this employee myself. They're still upset…

Hey! So my co worker told me to not tell a former employee about what’s happening at work. We just talk about how sh!tty the office is, and how I’m going to quit soon. Former employee told my co worker that she knew business was picking up because I told her. I immediately get a phone call and was told to not talk to former employees about what’s happening at work. I’m now afraid she is going to tell management about this because she is notorious for telling management about everything!! I’m afraid I might lose my job. What should I do??

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss
I've worked at my job for decades and am at the end of my “career” counting the years until my retirement. I was looking forward to a new supervisor after dealing with my previous boss. That's a whole other story. I'm in a union, so I'm fairly well protected. I've explained to both bosses that I have to work within my job description and government rules. There's wiggle room to some extent, but I can only go so far in my role. Had my first formal meeting with the new boss. She wants to change my work hours and have me take on more responsibily without a raise or change of my job description. I explained that it doesn't happen that way. She pushed. I pushed back. I'd like to complete my years without a battle but the work war continues. I've calculated my retirement
I interviewed for a full-time cafe job on the 20th of June for a cafe that was opening soon. During the interview, the owner mentioned that they were having a “training” session with the coffee company the next day that “you don’t have to attend but it might be nice if you did”. She then texted me later that day to say that she wanted me on board when the cafe opened, and that the training had been postponed a week because of an issue with coffee machine installation. No problem, I showed up the next week on the 27th June for the training session, which was running severely late and ended up lasting almost three hours. On that day, she told me they were opening Wednesday of the next week (5th July) and that she would send me a roster before then. 4th July, I still hadn’t heard anything…
So near the end of my last day of my last work rotation (3 on 3 off 12hr) I was cleaning for about 5 hours and decided I wanted to take my last break at 4:45 which is never an issue. I took my break in the quality lab bc it is air conditioned and my friend works in quality. I have taken several breaks in there over the past 3 years. As well the break room is filled with the next shift so couldn't really go in there. The break room is the only other room with a/c we have access to. Now I am a heavier set man, around 285 and I am know to sweat like crazy, especially when cleaning for some reason. So when I go into the lab for the last 15 of my shift as well as my last break I am drenched in…
