I work at a Toxic Jimmy John’s store and I highly resent my job. What do I do?

Hello everyone, This is my first post here. I’m seeking advice about what to do and how to go about things when it comes to being in a highly toxic work environment. I’m not the best at explanations… I started a Jimmy John’s job way back in February of this year. It’s my first time ever being in a fast food work environment so I’m trying my best to hang in there… but I can’t do it anymore. The staff is highly disrespectful to me, The General Manager is honestly a huge disappointment and an insult to the company and it’s policies, I get literally yelled at whenever I ask literal legit questions telling me “You should already know this by now! What are you slow and stupid?” or I don’t know something despite ASKING for someone to help me. The General Manager HIMSELF and all the the other managers…

Is truck driving a good job for an introvert who dislikes co workers?

My job is fairly easy, but I just hate the idea of being stuck in the same building 8 hours a day for the next 45 years. I don’t mind hard work as long as it’s a fair wage

“It’s worse in 3rd world countries. Be grateful for what you have!”

Yes, I'm grateful I was not born in a war torn country with human rights abuses being the norm and the world turning a blind eye because there's no financial incentive to get involved. That doesn't mean I am going to delude myself into thinking “yes, working 40 plus hours-with verbally abusive customers and employers-a week just to survive(not thrive) is good enough. I am happy. I will not complain.” The Calvin and hobbes comic had the dad tell his complaining son “you know, things could be worse” to which Calivn replies “they COULD also be better.” Yd

I got a pay raise and I had to share.

Hey all! I had to share my success story! I work for a Fortune 500 company. They are currently worth about $50B. I took my position in April 2022. It’s a traveling position and I have the largest territory in the company. So, I’m constantly on the road away from my family. It’s been really hard on my wife and kids. Our fiscal year is June to May. We had our annual meeting back in late April. Of course, the company is posting record profits across the board in each division. My division is seeing the highest growth year over year. Personally, my counterpart and I have grown sales 34% year over year. Towards the end of the meeting, they provided updates to our compensation plan. THEY DID NOT GIVE ANYONE RAISE. I was pretty salty about that. After stewing on it for a few weeks, I finally said something…

Company not paying earned commission

Hello all, God I’m so tired of sales jobs for big corporations. I’m in Colorado and I recently quit my job without notice (they’re calling it job abandonment) and they’re refusing to pay me my commission from sales in the month of June. I walked in and dropped off my equipment and bounced. I was terminated due to abandonment on the 20th of June and had earned around $3500 in commission from sales that month. They’re telling me that since I abandoned my job, that I’m not entitled to that commission. I asked if they could produce a document that I signed consenting to forfeiture of commissions if I abandoned my position and they’re refusing to provide any documentation. Where do I go from here?

Should companies pay for interview time?

I have gone to multiple interviews spending time and money on gas. Can we normalize being paid for Interviewing time. This at the end of the day becomes work. Especially after spending hours going through the process.

Supervisor Threatened me for Unclear Reasons

Just got off a call with my inmediate supervisor, it was pretty normal at first talking about some process reviews I'm doing and how I needed to reach out to another lab when suddenly it veered off in a bizarre direction. They just said out of the blue that they had received some comments from HR, and that I should be aware that they had enough documentation to fire me if they wanted. This was followed by a full half hour of angry ranting about me and my coworkers. Thing is, not only do I know those documents don't exist, they also don't have the authority to fire me or even any say in the matter, and on top of that I wasn't the one who made whatever complaint they are referring to. I already contact HR just to tell them what happened but damn that was a hell of…

When Karma Came for The Creeps

I’m an English teacher in Japan. My previous job I worked for an “international” (in quotations because it was only international in name) preschool. In April 2022 We had two new staff members. Creep 1 (C1) is a 40s male who would co-teach with me. Creep 2 (C2) is a 50s male who was to be our new head teacher. I immediately knew within a day of meeting them that they’d be an issue. C1 turned out to be a pathological liar to the point of making up easily checkable lies about all of us. None of us understood why as he didn’t gain anything, nor did he make himself look good. He also had a habit of contacting the parents using their personal contact info (a big no no). And to make matters worse he Sexually harassed and assaulted one of the female teachers. C2 had a habit of…

Rent increase more than my yearly raise

I just got an average annual raise of 5% last week. Then, this morning I get a text from my landlord that my rent is increasing by 25%. That takes all of my raise and then some… It’s just becoming impossible to get ahead. I’d saved a few thousand dollars for a down payment on a new car that I badly need. And my raise was going to let me be able to afford the payment. Now, any hope of getting a new car is gone. A bit of a rant, I know. But I just don’t think companies understand that if they don’t pay their employees enough we literally will not be able to afford to keep working there.
