Tobacco User Not Eligible for Employment?!!

Just wondering if anyone has come across this in a job search. I am a former smoker for years now, but is this really allowed? Wouldn't this be construed as discrimination? Granted, anyone could just lie and mark “NO” but still… Wondering what other people think of this. https://preview.redd.it/17swvlqbizab1.png?width=754&format=png&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=a328be30972532bc5fb5f0b1fba628c0b2f1eeab

“Dip Day” at the office

Here’s a tale about a U.S. company’s tone-deaf effort to boost employee moral earlier this year as the pandemic was (allegedly) waning. My corporate monster of an employer went WFH during the pandemic and made a bunch of hires across the country for all departments, thus making it nearly impossible to force us to return to office spaces that already had been leased through the next few years. But man, company leadership thought WFH meant the comradery was just lacking! So what bright idea will solve this conundrum? DIP DAY you plebs!! For a month straight I got Dip Day emails from Mary the office manager trying to cull us into the office one fine Wednesday and bring along homemade dips that we can all share. So many emails asking us to “rsvp” with our respective dips. Not sure about you, but the idea of crowding into the conference room…

Getting written up for using PTO

So basically at some point around March or April I got written up for using too much PTO, I had used all my sick days and some of my vacation time by this point. My kid had strep twice at the start of the year and I ended up catching COVID, I'm also on probation so I have to meet my case officer as well. Well fast forward and I just used up the rest of my vacation time there last week and got a call on Monday from my HR asking why I hadn't put in anytime for Friday as I called out with shingles. I said I have no PTO left and she responded with ok we're going forward with disciplinary action and that they'll reach out to my manager. My manager was on vacation all last week so now I'm assuming when I go into work tomorrow…

Hi am I being harassed at work by a 3rd key?

Hi so probably a dumb question but I saw a post in another Reddit that made me question this. I work in a small retail store with two managers. Two part timers (I’m one of them) and one 3rd key. Me and the other part timer have both agreed before that our 3rd key has some power trip problems. I am the only female in my store besides the main manager (this comes into play). I will be doing my tasks (usually assigned by manager) and if they leave he will sit on his phone, or straight up snap at me and tell me to get things done, or better yet (this one is good) tell me stop stop literally everything I’m doing to go greet customers in the color section even if it’s apparent they don’t need help. For example last week I was on a phone call with…

Would this be enough to sue or should I not even think about it?

I was thinking about suing the workplace I was terminated from for a while, and really started thinking about it when my grandpa said “sue them for discrimination, works every time!” I don’t think it’s that easy though. My coworker sexually harassed me and would say the n word with the hard r around the workplace even though we had people of color working with us and he has made fun my eyes because I have epicanthic folds, saying I look Asian and not Mexican. I have the text where I told my boss about the sexual harassment and the slur and my boss talked to me about it the next day, but still did not fire the guy or punish him. All he did was talk to him because he’s so desperate for workers. This place had me working an illegal amount of hours when I was 17. I…

Work, no rest, running after the money

I'm very exited to make my first post in this community. I would like to first send my salutations to all antiwork members as a lot of your thoughts are true and I share a lot of the same feelings you guys have. We live in a time where it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Wages haven't kept up with the rise in cost of living, boomers are honestly the most selfish generation to ever exist, the level of greed I feel from these people is disgusting…..they are leeches that can't stop sucking!! I'd like to use this example to explain my inner thoughts: A farmer who has a plot of land uses it to plant his crops every season and in return gets his crop yield and sells that to make his living. Now this farmer is smart and takes proper care of…

Thinking of going AWOL

My work sneakily tried to relocate me, got me out of the province working a job supposedly for only “a few weeks”. Get to said job, I’m given keys to an apartment instead of a hotel and I’m told that I’ll be taking over the testing lab full time here, I think it’s very unprofessional of them to do this to me as I have responsibilities back where I live, and the few days to a week off I used to get meant a lot because I could take care of personal things. Anyways, I’m currently sitting in this apartment. Supervisor won’t answer my texts or calls and I’m stressed out, I know how it usually works out if you refuse to relocate, you end up losing your job anyways. So, do I go AWOL and drive 8 hours back to where I live and just ghost the company?
