Month: July 2023
I read this article, and the focus is on how horrible this strike would be for businesses. I didn't see any concern for the workers and the slave-like (not to compare to chattle slavery) working conditions. I can tell you that newbies working for YouPeeS (not sure if I can write the company) would be shocked to see water bottles with a yellowish substance in them…yeah, better not touch those. These are what some truck drivers have had to use for fear of taking a restroom break due to unrealistics demands set by corporate. I can also tell you that you would be shocked to hesr someone from HR tell you not to be surprised that you may not get a lunch break du4ing 4th quarter and that this is federally legal. My concern/support is for the workers all the way.
Student Debt Strike Aug 2023
I’ve been at a new job for the past few weeks. Checked my paychecks and found that I’ve been recorded as taking 60 min breaks when they’ve only been 30 mins. There’s no way to log breaks as the managers are supposed to do it. I don’t think it’s them as they have no incentive to lie. I believe it’s the owner who changes it. I Have also been at a lower pay rate for some shifts than what was told and in the contract too I believe. The owner 100% controls payroll. Checked with a few other guys and they had the same thing happen to them. Nobody found out all these years cause I suppose you have to navigate a bit on the website portal to look at your pay stubs. There’s a bit over 200 employees and they’ve been in business for 15 years. It’s mostly college…
Is this legal? We are wage employees
So I read the article by Jessica Wildfire: https://open.substack.com/pub/jessicawildfire/p/how-you-do-anything-is-how-you-do?r=133×25&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post And was wondering how the court ruling might filter in. Like we know corporate, jobs, HR don’t care about the average worker…but now if we get an illness on the job that hurts us or someone else we have no recourse at all. So thinking of that recent plan flight with the inadequately cleaned up blood and feces…does this mean the flight attendants / clean up crew would not be helped if they catch something? What about drs or nurses (hospital/ dr office staff) if they get a communicable disease and die or someone in their family does…there is surely no help from the business/in the courts. Makes me wonder if Erin Brockovich took her case to court now would she have even won? Anyway just some thoughts, I would enjoy reading yours.
Job Offer Advice
I’m not super active on Reddit but love this sub. If there is a sub that’s better for this kind of question that I could be directed to id greatly appreciate it! I recently got a job offer that seems pretty good all things considered. Work from home 4 days a week, flexible with work hours and relatively interesting tasks. I asked for 52,500 salary in the interview but admitted I needed to see their insurance plans and rates before making any final decisions. The interview was kind of sudden so I didn’t come fully prepared or armed with all the info I needed to set all of my expectations adequately. They sent over their policies and after having time to check over some things my family would be taking a big net loss as the salary would put us over state benefit levels and my children would be out…
It’s a little complicated so I’ll do my best. My dad(50+)lives in a mid west state but is hired to work out of state, in New York State, on a “tech construction” project. Project started with doing the general labor to get to know the industry then quickly started to move up the ladder and became a QA/QC type role. One day he was moving something heavy and pulled something in his shoulder and filed workman’s comp and everything seemed fine as he continued to work out his injury with doctors and visits he was still at work. Obviously work knows about it or he wouldn’t be getting coverage from that. So week by week for a few months, his injury festered into his arm compensating and further injuring him self thus extending the workman’s comp because it’s related to the first injury. While his condition worsens he makes some…
I started work last Sunday. It's my first job. It's a smoke shop but there's also magazines, candy, and even lottery tickets. I'm not a smoker so I was clueless the first day, but on the third one I had learnt many brands and where each one is placed, so I can hand it to the customers. I've been having fun and learning a lot. The thing is, my boss is known as a bad person with his workers. It's a small town and everyone thinks the same. Many people have quit. I thought I could handle it but I'm already pissed off. I'm new to lottery stuff and haven't been teached, so I've had some mistakes when attending costumers regarding it. He complained. He says I should search information on the internet of every product there is, including how the lottery works, in my free time. He's supposed to…
