This is so stupid, what is even the point of requiring a degree when you don’t care what it’s in?!

If an employee is required to be in office via the discretion of the company, when the work could be completed virtually/remote, then the company should be required to reimburse the employee for the mileage on their personal vehicle, as well as time spent in traffic.

Title states it all. I'm currently working for a bank that is working a hybrid schedule. Our work is done utilizing online services that can also be accessed via our company issued laptops anywhere, as we have multiple security systems in place to access a VPN. Why do I have to take the shit and spend over 1.5 hours of my life 3 days a week in traffic when I could just sit home, and do the same thing? I can get the work done, reduce my car emissions, and have an increased sense of personal wellness and flexibility in work life balance? Fuck the logic of my personal vehicle is my own so my company doesn't owe me anything. If your business requires me to be downtime in your shiny office, you are making my trip a mandatory “business purpose” trip that I wouldn't take otherwise. Fucking fuck off.…

Ups horror stories?

With the talk of the teamster strike coming I'd like to share some UPS horror stories and see if yall have any to add? A lot of attention gets given to the extreme heat in the delivery trucks, and while yes it is bad believe me the heat in the semi trailers needing to be loaded or unloaded is a whole other level. These trailers will sit for 6 hours baking in 100°+ summer sun. Then an employee will have to load or unload the trailer with a 50/50 of a working fan which is blowing more 100° air at you. A trailer can easily have 2500 boxes and unless it is over 70lbs you're expected to load or unload it by yourself. And unloaded may do 6-8 trucks in a 6 hour shift while a loader will load 3-4 in the same amount of time. So that sets the…

Checking paycheck

Please direct me to a more appropriate sub if there is one. My job is notorious for fucking up peoples pay. Is there a resource for checking your paystub? I have no reference to know if the amounts are correct or incorrect. I am a salaried worker working in public education.

Can we have a “I SHOULD have quit on the spot but I didn’t” thread?

I am reading with relish the stories of people who had had enough of their job, threw down their pen/apron/knife and walked out. I love them. I am so jealous. I have the character flaw that I stay too long and burn myself out. Part of it is because of money. Part of it is because…who know. I worked for a startup software company. I was employee number 4. I built the tech support, QA, documentation, quality control, distribution, etc etc. I helped Sales and Marketing. When I started we had 25 clients. We were international in 8 years. We got bought by a Sociopath (think wannabe Elon without the money, brains or charm). He decided to move my Tech Support department by hiring new people without notifying me, giving me 2 weeks In A Conference Room(!!!!!) to train them, and then switching the phones. And replacing me with an…

I’ve been quiet quitting for over a year before I knew what it was. Now I’ve taken it to another level.

I've been at my current occupation since late 2021. Within a couple weeks I learned it wasn't what I thought it would be but I've stayed because there really are great benefits and I earn $30/hr in a LCOL area. I'm in a management position in IT. I still handle technical things at the office but our “techs” are contracted out. So most of the technical things go to them and I handle other issues. It's such a dead end, mind numbing position with a lot of “scratch mine, I'll scratch yours”, favoritism, and a dash of corruption for a public service organization. My days are so long and empty that I feel useless and I'm just wasting away. If I could WFH, it would be easier but the higher ups won't allow that. I had already decided to leave a long time ago. I've looked around for a while…

Work can pay me 12.50 an hour and spend 10,000 dollars on a produce display, can’t afford to fix break room AC

I work in a grocery store, one where it says in the handbook that breaks are NOT GUARANTEED. You can ONLY get a break if the store isnt “too busy” in their eyes. But i think they don’t want you taking a break in general The store’s AC is functional, not that they run it to the necessary temperature as it still gets hot as hell in the store, but the upstairs AC where the break room is has been nonfunctioning, with the only cooling agent being a fan. This also affects the employee bathrooms. However, down in the store around the alcohol we have a little booth seating area, usually for customers. I choose to sit in the alcohol area, as i’m 21, for my break, as it’s nice and cool. Especially since its summer, and it’s hotter upstairs than it is outside. Well, god fucking forbid! Woe is…

The cast of FRIENDS each made $1M per episode in the final two seasons and now make $20M per year per cast member for reruns. The show still generates $1B/year for Warner Bros. All thanks to David Schwimmer encouraging the cast to negotiate as a team.
