Burner account here. So I work as a cashier/sales associate for a small retail toy shop. Though not written, it is general policy that we greet everyone who comes into the store with a 'hello', 'welcome', 'let me know if you need anything', etc. and I would say I achieve this 90-95% of the time. Of course, there are moments when we're busy, I'm taking care of another task such as inventory, or I just happen to miss someone who walks through the door. That's exactly what happened earlier this week — I was in the middle of putting out/organizing items we had just gotten in for the 4th of July, and also a coworker stopped by the store to give me an extra pair of keys… All that to say, I don't know exactly what I was doing in the moment, but my attention was diverted and therefore I…

Alternative Explanation
Had a manager whose favorite expression when referring to himself in management was, “Cream rises to the top.” He didn't appreciate my alternative explanation, “So does pond scum.” But, it kept him from talking about it again.
Fired for being in the hospital
Title goes as it is. I was in the hospital after a car accident for three days, notified my manager and she approved the days off. An hour before my shift yesterday I get a phone call saying my employment has been terminated immediately. I asked why, twice, and got a “no reason, we are just going to part ways”. I’ve worked for this company for three years. She didn’t even ask how I was doing after the accident. Needed to vent here, I am at a loss of words.

The final round is an assessment centre – the issue is that the company I applied to gave just 3 days notice to confirm my attendance for the AC after the penultimate round. I've asked my manager for time off but there doesn't seem to be any chance. It'll be obvious ofc but should I call in sick? I'm still in my probation period which causes me to worry about job security. To add to that I haven't been the most punctual recently… All in the past 6…
Tired of this shit.
Is this what they call “life” ? Im only 23 and already tired, been working non stop since 16. Its not much but its more to come for sure. Cant see any escape paths and this makes me really depressed. I just want to live life the way it's supposed to be lived. Just had to get it of my chest.
No, it is not “normal”
No, it is not “normal” for humans to be in competition all the time. It is not normal to work most of your waking hours of the day. is not normal to be stressed 24/7 . Stop taking a few hundred years of capitalism Check and pretending that's just how being human is. It's not.
