Had a manager whose favorite expression when referring to himself in management was, “Cream rises to the top.” He didn't appreciate my alternative explanation, “So does pond scum.” But, it kept him from talking about it again.

Title goes as it is. I was in the hospital after a car accident for three days, notified my manager and she approved the days off. An hour before my shift yesterday I get a phone call saying my employment has been terminated immediately. I asked why, twice, and got a “no reason, we are just going to part ways”. I’ve worked for this company for three years. She didn’t even ask how I was doing after the accident. Needed to vent here, I am at a loss of words.

It's super clear they don't give a fuck about us. Why should we give a fuck about them?

I'm through to the final stage of the hiring process for a reputable tech consulting firm we all know of. The role is a degree apprenticeship in tech consulting – it's what I'm passionate about and is literally my way out of this shitty call centre job I've been working in for the past 5 months after I dropped out of uni. The final round is an assessment centre – the issue is that the company I applied to gave just 3 days notice to confirm my attendance for the AC after the penultimate round. Is this what they call “life” ? Im only 23 and already tired, been working non stop since 16. Its not much but its more to come for sure. Cant see any escape paths and this makes me really depressed. I just want to live life the way it's supposed to be lived. Just had to get it of my chest.

No, it is not “normal” for humans to be in competition all the time. It is not normal to work most of your waking hours of the day. is not normal to be stressed 24/7 . Stop taking a few hundred years of capitalism Check and pretending that's just how being human is. It's not.
