To be clear, I’m definitely anti-bleed-and-die-for-these-assholes but I honestly don’t mind working. It’s something to do and they give me money so whatever. So I was actually kind of excited when I got a new job a few weeks ago because I like a change of scenery every so often. Thirty minutes into my training I realized that my new boss and coworker were only telling me how difficult it is to get the resources they need to do their jobs. How headquarters randomly revoked their access to platforms, gate keeps assets, takes an average of 3-4 weeks to make a simple website change, which we have to submit a ticket for instead of having access to our CMS, stuff like that. On the first day, my boss took me aside, and whispered “do not trust anybody here, not even [only coworker on my team].” I mentally included my boss…
Month: July 2023
Been out of work for months
i quit my first “real” or “adult” job after about 15 months. i had an anxiety attack at work which made me get on SSRIs (for ptsd, mdd, an ed, some ocd symptoms) the work stress just pushed me over the edge and i didn’t have support from administrative teams for all the things they threw on me. during my 3 month break at the time i ghosted my talk therapist lol. i had hit my lowest and was self isolating. but i still had goals i thought. i wanted to start my career in a field i really thought i was going to spend the rest of my life in. and i left that place before i hit my 3 months to be benefits eligible. the second month i was there i had a family event that triggered and spiked my anxiety. the week after a senior colleague came…
Worked my @#$ off for months FOR NOTHING
THREE MONTHS I LOST MY SOCIAL LIFE AND HOBBIES TO FOCUS 100% ON WORK. I wanted and needed the raise. I needed to prove myself to be converted to full time (I'm a contractor). And all that work was for nothing. I sat there looking like a fucking clown seeing my coworkers get paid time off, vacations, and sick days while I slaved away when they were at the beach. And I don't even get those benefits because I'm a contractor. I slipped into more suicidal depression for being so much inside working my days away for nothing. I'm still a contractor without job security, and they never offered me to be full time. Meanwhile others constantly get the privilege of getting PTO, and there's MANY who are always on PTO. I wasted my days. I wasted my time. I wanted to travel to the coast and take a mini…
FMLA for a dentist appointment
I told my boss I had two upcoming appointments. I simply asked if they would like me to take a longer lunch break for my appointments or if they would like for me to put in for sick time. I am already getting an hour of OT a day. I get a 30 min lunch . Our fiscal year just started so all my benefits are positive. So, the question in the title- also they asked me what the appointments were for– thoughts?
Quitting before finding a new job?
Been in the food industry for the last 5 years, executive chef for the last 3 of those 5 years and I cannot take another day doing this. How fucked am I if I quit without a backup plan? Like with this market there’s no way it’ll take me an entire month to find a new job right?
Our HR department is buying lunch because we have some of our regionals coming to the office next week. They asked for a headcount for who would be in the office for lunch. After getting the menu for next week, we were told there would be 3 different hoagie/sub options, all containing meat and cheese and a garden salad. Also in the email was a sec fence along the lines of: “If you don’t like it then bring your own lunch.” I emailed the head of HR and informed her that we have vegan and diet-restricted people in the office and that it would be nice to be included with something other than lettuce. I also explained that meals lacking protein aren’t sustaining. I was met with a response basically saying that the meal wasn’t for us and we’re just lucky to be included. 🥴 I’m not vegetarian, but I…
Also, I wouldn't want my full name on a sign for all to see lol.
I’ve just seen a post from AITA where a guy was asking if he was in the wrong for working in a park when he was working from home while hungover. All the scabs in the comments are calling him an asshole. I genuinely do not see a problem. He is working. He is literally doing the work that the company is paying him to do. What what should it matter if he does it in a space other than his home? Some commenters on the post are saying that he shouldn’t be discussing company work in an open space, and I genuinely cannot imagine the amount of brainwashing it would take for me to come to that conclusion. He works for IT, so he has to do every single bit of work in private just in case there’s a corporate spy who might skim some of the overlords profits,…
Why should we care?
This may not be a popular opinion on here but I want to ask why. Why should the work force care about wfh? I’m not against work from home but at the height of the pandemic I saw figures that showed 25% of the work force is wfh and the other 75% had to go to work and still goes to work. My spouse works from home and I have a job that can’t do that. So why should the other 75% care about the wants of the other 25% ( and 25 is being generous, I’m sure it might be lower.) Most of the posts I see are just this is bullshit I should be getting paid for getting ready, commuting , and I just waste time when I’m in the office. So how does fighting for work from home help the majority of workers that isn’t self serving…
