Aint that the truth…
“That is an amazing car!” Boss says, “Thanks! You know, if you continue to dedicate yourself to this company, work a little extra, and prove your commitment, I may buy another one next year.”
Bait and switched at work
I accepted a job offer last year at a manufacturing plant as a controls engineer, with the understanding that it would be a regular office schedule of 9 AM – 5 PM with rotating on-call once every six weeks. Organizational changes happened, and my team was reduced to 4 people, meaning I would be on-call once every four weeks. Then, the department on the floor (operations) requested our help to support their shifts. Shifts are for 12 hrs, 6 to 6. We did that for a year, with breaks in-between, and the promise was that we would finish shift support and return to on-call after the project ended and “regular” production started. This was to make sure the software could handle almost everything on its own, and to intervene in case it did weird shit (which it did at the beginning). Well, the project ended, regular production started, but we…
Found this post on Indeed. They are looking for someone who has dedicated a minimum of ten years into a trade and will pay them nowhere near enough to live off of. This company is based in Menlo Park, CA where the average house price is $2,550,440 according to Zillow. A basic house for “the poor folk” would cost around $800,000 for a monthly mortgage payment (if you managed to get the $160,000 for a downpayment) of $4,930. At the top of the pay range you get $5712 after taxes. So a decade of working up to not being able to afford food. Not to mention that they say they encourage “cross training” which translates to “we will make you do things you aren’t trained in or want to do.”
Can my boss change my hours and pay?
My boss decided to make me hourly at less than I was making salary and cut 2 hours of my check cause they were before business hours It’s a small office so if I stir the pot I’ll probably get fired Is there anything I can do ?
I recently quit a call center position, only to learn that my friends in the same team were let go the next week as well as many many other employees. Three weeks later, I received a call from HR informing me that I need to return back to the company site with legal documents to prove who I am. They refused to answer my inquiries as to why and said they have limited information to share and this is for Homeland Security reasons. I can't find any information about this online or from family and friends so I am a little worried. Please any ideas as to what I should do, I would be very grateful.
So this is basically just a (long) pointless rant because I felt the need to vent. I manage an Adult Store. My whole backstory is long and most would be uninterested (though some of it IS antiwork sort of stuff, so I might share some of it later), but the long story short is I worked basic retail for the company, cut myself down to very minimal part time when I got a better job, was offered to manage a store. The 'better job' was killing me, so I actually took a pay cut and pretty much tripled my commute to manage said store. So now I have an hour commute, don't make great money, but the job is easy enough and I'm no longer killing myself. I make the schedules, so when all is going well I can put all my hours into open to close shifts, and minimize…
Couldn’t be because the pay is trash
So, I started a new job but it seemed sketchy. I was hired by a family friend because I told them that I needed work and thought this was a good opportunity for me. They said they have their own company and I was open to a position with them in marketing. I was so happy about this because I thought this would be the start of me being in full time employment and also work for someone who seems nice so I could finally move forward and get my life together. I didn’t mention wages or how much I would get paid since I felt that was rude to ask straight away, so I’d ask about a week in. On the day I was meant to work, I get an international call. Which was fine but I wasn’t understanding why they didn’t use my country’s number. Apart from that,…
