Should I work a day I said I couldn’t work when starting my job?

So basically I work at a Hallmark store and when I was hired in I said I couldn't work Saturdays. At Hallmark we have black out days you can't call off due to Christmas ornaments, (yes Christmas in July). I am scheduled to work next Saturday, and so is every single one of coworkers. I purely take this day off for personal reasons but boss does not know this. My question is, should I put my foot down and not work it? I am worried if I work this she'll start working me Saturdays.

Do You Get This Tip?

I tend to get caught up in the moment when it comes to kiosks asking for tips when checking out at the counter. I just give a few dollars to help the person at the counter, always a good tipper. We've all discussed how tipping is getting out of control. It's everywhere, and it's easy to forget that we don't tip at the gas station when ringing up fuel or whatever. Anyway, I was mindlessly punching in a tip for a cashier today, and she told me, “We don't get the tip.” She was brazen and firm about it, so I selected NO TIP. I thought the owner better to asking for up to 30% tip at the register and KEEP IT. I'll never go back. When you're out in public, don't tip the man. Pause for a beat and ask the employee, “Do you get this tip?” Let's make…

40 hours a week is too much

For a long time I thought working 40 hours a week was ok and that it I get a stable 40/hr week job I should be fine. I was so wrong. I'm middle income, but I constantly feel like I can't get ahead. It's always a car repair bill, hours cut due to holidays, social outings costing more than expected, existing debt, etc. I feel like I have no free time. I'm trying to look for a new job while working and I never have any time to do so. It's annoying to always have to take time off of work or come in 1 hr early to make it to doctors appointments. I need a 4 day work week so I can do all of the stuff I need to do without taking time off of work. We also need to pay people much more money.

I got suspended from my job.

Long story short, I stopped giving a shit about this giant corporation of grocery chains. They brought in some new system that would only add more work on us. They refused to hire more people. I worked part time and they kept wanting to add work onto me. 8 hours of work in four hours? Hell no. I worked two jobs. I pay rent on my own and bills etc. I have no family to help me. My mental health was tanking and at this point I stopped giving a shit. After over four years of being there I reached my limit. I should have left sooner but it was the security “blanket” of more money that kept me there. Well they found out I would also shop for clearance stuff on the clock. (Yet I was always punching out an hour early most days because I wanted to get…

Owner of my job talked about firing me to a coworker

I've been in a super toxic work environment lately. We all had our hours reduced immediately with 1 days notice due to the owner of the dog daycare freaking out about lost revenue. She owns 2 daycares in the area. So obviously everyone is shocked and we weren't given any heads up. Then we found out the owner had not figured out a plan for how we are going to get hours or if there will be layoffs. It's been a week since we were supposed to have a team meeting. Today I found out a coworker overheard my owner of the daycare saying she wants to fire me and someone else who were openly questioning what the plan was and our concerns about dog safety with our staff numbers being reduced. Apparently she was super angry and told a coworker who's still a minor!!! So just casually bringing it…

“just go volunteer to work at a company for free until they hire you” “Offer to work for less, be available all the time, and never say no if called in last minute or to mandatory overtime even if you worked a 12 hour shift”

I just about had a fight with my sister over the first bit of the title about offering to work for free. And it's been a reoccurring theme from others i have come across regarding the other comments of selling yourself short just to get a job. I know my sister means well and i get where she is coming from in terms of doing WHATEVER it takes to get a job so you can pay the bills, as no job at all means no income, but my beliefs, my criminal justice background, my ideals of fairness and a better society for all SCREAM AT ME that supporting that kind of ideal/attitude is just wrong. I live out in Northern Utah in a rural area where there are more people looking for work than good paying jobs. This means we have families in the area all pooling money together from…
