Working full time is bullshit. I literally just worked for 8 hours and sat in traffic for almost 2 hours my commute there and back. Growing up I was told “oh you need to go to school, get a good job, follow your dreams etc” well yeah I got my bachelors and can only get shit jobs in my area, so now I’m starting my masters in the Fall because you need it in this field. I will have to work full time during it & I’m already exhausted. Now I’m in my late 20s and people are asking me when I’m having a wedding and a baby?! With what time and money? I just want to live in a small cottage surrounded by flowers and animals and not have to work full time to live in this world. As I get older the more being a stay at home…

Our old boss is retiring soon, and the supervisor is taking over his spot. I noticed when he talks to me, he has a snotty tone. And in email and in front of others. I am in a male dominant job , and I noticed he's nice and sweet to his boys. I heard nothing but bad things about him, and my first day with him put a bad taste in my mouth if this is the future. It's got me spiraling just a little. It's just his tone. Do I bring it up? Do I say this is making me feel really not good about the future? I don't want to look for another job, as I really like this and the trajectory of it.
I deliver for a chain restaurant. The franchisee that owns our location also owns 10+ other locations within the state and adjacent states, and does not live in my city. I have worked at this location for almost 4 years and have actually really enjoyed it, and have made extremely good money for the hours that I work. Up until about a week ago everything was smooth sailing, until we were informed that we are going to be forced to use company cars that they will be supplying. We get paid around $11/hr in store and $6/hr when on the road delivering, plus tips, and $2 of the delivery fee. These company cars will audio and video record us the entire time we are in the vehicle (yes you read that correctly, we would have our every waking moment recorded for a lousy $6/hr), and our portion of the delivery…
Every time I hear about unemployment numbers are low I think of this statement https://youtu.be/paaen3b44XY?t=166 This is Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of the OXFAM Food, shelter, health, and education are increasing in price yet our jobs do not cover just those basics. If wages don't cover those then a Congress that is willing to fight price gouging would do. We have neither.
So I was suddenly laid off
I was laid off from a company Friday they cut half the employees away. I was in a process engineering roll. I got a new job today with day one benefits and perks and vacation accumulating on day one. Everything about the new place benefit wise is better the 401k is 8% vs the 1% where I just came from the insurance is better the hours are better and the pay raise is 3.50 per hour. I'm now sitting here wondering why I didn't leave sooner.
I have a gap in my employment history from when my now ex gf was diagnosed with Stage 3 Cancer, for which I eventually stopped down from my job for to help take care of her full time because I was the primary person she could rely on as she didn't drive nor did she have any family in the area. Whenever I get asked about this I explain the situation and that I waited for my employer to hire and train a replacement before I left and then I didn't work until she recovered, especially as a lot of her medical related things were in a city 3 hours away but I'm starting to think maybe I should just lie and erase that gap and make it seem like I've been a good worker drone without any pauses in employment as that seems to be an unfathomable concept to…
