So I work a $12/hr summer job in a relatively low COL area (think $500/mo for rent for one person) and I used to pick up shifts whenever they were available, simply because I need to work ~45 hours a month simply to pay rent alone and afford nothing else. Anyway, I feel the exact specifics of what I make are largely irrelevant, but how is it fair that I get only ONE SHIFT A WEEK assigned to me? 10 hours of work per pay period is not even enough to pay rent, and they always schedule unreliable people to work. As such, I get calls from my two managers at 6-7am on days where I am not scheduled asking me to come in to cover for someone. This is absolutely ridiculous. I will be looking for another job and refusing to pick up a single shift until they can…

Past the point of caring
Oh no, you guys have a consistent work schedule, better pay and more benefits. I’ve been trying to get an office job for two years and my retail job sucks. I have to work weekends, my schedule is not consistent, my pay is ass and the rewards in gift cards and food parties don’t make up for the fact I don’t have good health insurance. I just hate when people complain about office jobs. GIVE IT TO ME THAN. I’ll take it and not have to stand for 7-8 hours a day getting berated by customers.
So ive been doing security for 7 years and last week i was sent to a “skilled gaming arcade” (Its just a casino) Before i started i was told of the site and i asked if they had a fish game. ( most of these places have a fish game and its very illegal.) They told me yes but they were on the up and up but i remained suspicious. Well a week goes by and on a table i see a notice from the local PD giving a statement to the owner of the premises that they were the owner of a gambling establishment and must Ceased all gambling activities ect ect. But It had mentioned colorado law code 10-18-107 and 18-10.5-103. the 10-18 one has this on it. (1) “Whoever as owner, lessee, agent, employee, operator, or occupant knowingly maintains, aids, or permits the maintaining of gambling premises…
I am a perfect exemple of the peter principle. I got promotion to my level of incompetence. I never hid that fact, I always told my employee that i was a terrible boss and i hated my duty. I manage 4 employee, that are part of a union. 3 of them i am thoroughly ashamed of. Hygiene issue, below high school grammar. Below par work. 2 of them have court date coming in the coming month. I was pushed them by management. I tried to tell them to clean their act, grow up, and as long as other department didnt complain, I wouldnt have issue with them. Despite warning, they gave less than a fuck for their job, which i completely understand. Their union contract is up for renogotiation, and one of the key point management is not negotiating on is that those 4 jobs are going to be cancelled…
My new interview question
Sometimes I genuinely don’t have any questions on an interview, but I know it’s expected and I just stumbled onto a new life hack: I ask the panel what THEY all like about working there! It’s perfect: turns the tables on them and also subtly reminds them that they have to audition for me, too. Hahaha! I’ve also gotten some good, thoughtful answers to it and managed to make things feel a little more personable, too.

I’m just so tired of budgeting
I only get paid once a month. Because of this I try to stick to a budget… try and mostly fail. I give myself $700 for all my spending money for the entire month (groceries, gas, eating out, pet supplies, and miscellaneous) This month I gave myself a $600 budget. I just want to save more. I haven’t even been paid a week and I already feel like I’ve gone over my budget for the rest of the month. I feel like I’m stuck in a vicious cycle, like I realize I need something during the month, but I’ll wait til my next paycheck. Then when I get paid I buy a bunch of things I need, feel broke again, rinse and repeat. I feel lucky because I live with my parents and they only charge me $100 in rent, but at my age my parents and I get into…
Okay so this is a venting post. I needed to vent somewhere and figured you guys would understand. Some context first. I live in staff accommodation that the company I work for owns. Its the only thing I and any of the other workers in the area can afford. Everything else is owned and rented by landlords, most of which are slumlords or are staff accommodation for other businesses. I have been working for the company for over 5 years. Most employees need to share a room when they first start working for the company. I have had my own room for 4 years. The room I am in right now has been a single occupant room for far longer than I've been working here. My boss loves me and I've done more for this company than they'll ever do for me. Yet despite all that the new human resources…
