I am so fucking sick of being punished for being a good employee

You can tell someone is a shitty manager when their solution to having a weak team is to make their best employee compensate for it. I work at a pizza restaurant as a delivery driver and I'm told pretty often by my GM that I'm his best driver, at the same time though the responsibility of making up for people calling out will often fall on me. Being asked to close when people call out. We literally have drivers that will sit in their cars doing fuck all or standing around talking while I'm in the back doing dishes or sweeping. Barely anything is done about it. At one point half of our delivery team was doing crap like that and the only reason it's any different is because most of those people quit on their own accord My manager knows that I'm going through a financial crisis (I'm legally…

Can I use sick days even when I’m not sick?

At my company we accrue PTO and sick days. We also have a few days to use for floating holidays (birthdays, etc.). We get paid bi monthly and each paycheck accrues 3.36 hours or something like that. So at the end of the month we accrue 6/7ish hours, not even 8 hours which is a full day! I rarely use sick days except in the winter when I actually get a cold or something and I mostly use them for mental health days. I’ve now accrued 114 hours of sick days and only have like 38 hours of PTO, which I’m not even sure how it’s that low as I can’t remember the last time o actually took a vacation. Anyway, do you use sick days even when you’re not sick? I feel like it’s such a waste to accrue all these hours and not really able to take them…

Boss is mad that we won’t babysit her kid for free

I work at a chiropractic clinic with another girl. Our boss had a secret baby (as in she went on “personal leave” for a few months saying “she was having family issues” and then came back to work with a 3 month old baby). She now is wanting to come back to work full time, but expects me and my coworker to watch her baby while we’re working. We’re both receptionists, so this is pretty much impossible. We expressed this to her, and her response was “so decide which of you wants to sit in the back with her for the shift and which of you wants to be at the front”. We then flat out told her that we weren’t comfortable with that because it wasn’t part of our job requirements when we were hired. Her response was to then edit our training manual and write (and I’m quoting)…

In one week, I am leaving a toxic “work exchange” after three years. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I moved here.

This will probably be a bit long, but here goes: As the title says, I am finally leaving a toxic “work exchange”/barter after nearly three years. I started in August 2020. When I mention work exchange, I mean I worked in exchange for room and board. To begin, I wasn't exactly looking for a place to stay but saw an ad for a “live-in” role. I was living with extended family (and paying rent to them in a less-than-ideal situation). This live-in role was in a major city nearby I'd wanted to move to for years, so, of course, the role sounded too good to be true (it was). Free room and board in a major city! At first, I didn't mind the situation because when I moved in, it was during lockdown (I had my own room and bathroom), and liked the idea of a community. The environment was…

Manager ignoring emloyee safety

I am an opener at a popular fast food chain. Our company has a policy against an employee entering the building alone because of the risk of being robbed. After not being given a choice I have been going in and getting started since my other opener usually comes in 15 minutes late. Yesterday I was the only one there for an hour but luckily my coworker showed up when I had to unlock the door. Our manager just released the new schedule and I'm scheduled a day where I will be completely alone for 2 hours. Half of that being time that the doors will be unlocked. If I don't unlock the doors it will result in a write up or possibly losing my job. I absolutely hate the fact that I'm just a body to them.

Had a rather upsetting interaction with management. Can I do anything about this?

I work in a coffee kiosk that is inside of a rather large grocery store chain. The kiosk is poorly staffed and I often times am forced to work alone for 4-6 hours. When only one person is working, store management is very upset when we leave our station for any reason. For this reason, I don't often take my 15s or my 30. At most, I take a 5 minute smoke break every few hours. When I get hungry I'll purchase one of the sandwiches we offer at the kiosk and eat it behind the counter (again, because I can't leave.) The other day, a member of upper management (I think district manager?) saw me eating and just kinda…stared at me. I had no idea what he was doing or why so I waved at him. This is when problems occurred. He walked closer to me VERY aggressively and…

Done with hotels

I recently got let go as a front office manager for a chain hotel. I've been in the industry for the past 8 years, and made it to the GM level. I was let go in retaliation for asking for a raise for our busy season and for previously asking for health insurance, which I was entitled to months prior. I recently got my final paycheck and saw I was shorted by 6 hours. The last day I worked was a 13- hour shift where 99 of the 114 rooms checked out with 60 rooms coming in. My GM did not want to come in because she previously told the staff that she was taking that day and the previous day off. The housekeeping supervisor was recently put in the role and refused to communicate with the front desk when rooms were ready. I Also offered to help her inspect…
