Hey fellow Redditors, I came here to ask what I can possibly do about the shitty situation we are in. My wife went on Maternity leave from her job on June 10th. Her job was supposed to start paying her maternity leave when her first check was normally due. They didn’t. We contact them and get sent in loops. HR would only tell us that it was her managers job to figure out, but all her manager had to do was send in the copies of the paperwork, which she did. Well we all currently know what day it is, and she still hasn’t receive any compensation. We’ve lost our place as we live paycheck by paycheck and had to move in with my dad, and couldn’t keep up on our car insurance payments so that’s out too. Now our monthly phone bills are coming up and since our income…

Taking the day off
I currently work at a chemical plant. It is tough, hard work in a hot, unventilated area. I work around and above some chemical tanks that can reach over 100°F. The company has some industrial fans plugged in at different places, but they are just moving hot air around. We have been short handed since Covid. Anyone walking in for a job through our doors will immediately go somewhere else once they see the conditions here. The foreman is on vacation and so is another person so we are super short handed right now. I worked yesterday and it was 89°F outside and over 100 inside. Also keep in mind I have to wear PPE while working. Rubber muck boots, gloves, and a thick PVC apron with a mask and safety glasses on. All while lifing metal in and out of these tanks for 8 hours. So last summer I…

Interview rollercoaster
So I am an IT manager and I’m looking for a new role. A cool looking smaller company using a recruiter contacted me to interview. Their only stipulation you had to be on-site 100%. While I think this is dumb at the time I didn’t think it too big a deal. We had a few interviews and we were about to do an on-site interview. The recruiter contacts me 2 days before saying “sorry they canceled the role it’s really unfortunate you were the #1 candidate”. So I think oh well stuff happens and move on. My son is born early. I have tons of issues with childcare and family not being helpful so my ability to be 100% on-site is gone for sure. 3 months later they come back to me “hey the role is open again can you come in for in person”. They didn’t ask did anything…
9 points for a total of 12 minutes late
Worked at a factory for almost 2 years. During the second year A LOT happened. Car accident daughter got skull fracture. Another daughter was born. Everyone in house got the flu. All pipes in my house froze over. Throughout everything that happened I still showed up to work every single day except the first day of the flu. When I got taken to the office I was being terminated after 1 written warning about points. While in the office I looked at every incident where (except the 1 call of day) I was anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes late to clock in. I'll never forget how I last a job that I genuinely enjoyed over petty minutes. I even offered to stay an extra 30 minutes late to make up for the 12 minutes
Got stood up on 2nd day of orientation
Today was my second day of orientation, which is always scheduled for 10:00. Yesterday we didn’t start until 11:00 because our trainer didn’t know how to process our I-9’s, so we didn’t get to leave until 3:00 – even though we were supposed to leave at 2:00. When we finished, the Store manager asked that we come in an hour early today. So the four of us showed up at 9:00, with no trainer or manager in sight. I waited maybe 10 minutes before I finished my second module (which I knew needed to be done and could do without coaching or guidance). After finishing, I waited till 10:30, then clocked out and went home. I sent the only manager who’s number I had the following message: I know you are on vacation, so I wanted to avoid contacting you, but there was an issue this morning. ******* told us…
What a joke, dude 60 applications in the last month. Three rejections. 57 no replies. One interview with a company I didn’t even apply to, they reached out to me via LinkedIn. I told the hiring manager I can live comfortably on $70,000. He said this would be a problem. I asked why… he goes on to state “if you’re hitting your sales quota, you’ll be making $115,000. I don’t need another sales rep cruising below their quota because they’re happy with their pay.” Fuck this system. Fuck shareholders. Fuck revenue. Fuck projections. If i hear those words in a meeting ever again I’ll probably jump out a window. I’m a veteran with an MBA and I can’t even get a reply from companies that are “urgently hiring”. I’m so sick of this bullshit system. I just want to work for a company I like and be able to afford…
An Interview Today
Well- I just totally fucked up my interview with a unicorn of a company. I was so excited that I became nervous and then I choked. Full medical at no cost to me, wfh, and right up my alley as far as the nature of the work. To add to the delight, my family member arrived at my home unexpectedly during my interview (this is a wfh job) and the banging on the window and shouting of my name in the background no doubt only added to the excellent impression I made. Anyway, whoever gets the job will be very fortunate. I know we usually talk about how bad these companies are (rightly so), but this really seemed like a good one.
Good morning folks, I have a bit of a unique situation. I work in a call center and I burned out hard last year for reasons I won't elaborate on unless folks are really interested. When shift bids came up, I used the justification of doctors appointments that were weekdays only, and as a result I have Thursday and Friday as half days. My mental health has improved immensely with a combination of the reduced work hours plus some changes in my work duties. But now they want me to resume my normal schedule. Can my workplace require proof of my doctors appointments under threat of revoking my schedule? Is there a defense I can use against this? I'm in the state of Iowa, USA, where 'labor protection' usually means shielding the meat packing companies from liability for hiring kids and people who shouldn't be working. 🙁
Does anyone know what the most reasons employers get sued and lose? Property management is the most unethical industy I have ever worked in. I'm tiered of dealing with the blatant disregard for safety, the dishonesty, and the lack of integrity. So, I want to sue the S&#! out of my employer. I want to build a case that will WIN when I bring them to court. The property management industry and the company I work for are definitely violating osha rules and standards. From ladder safety, lead paint safety, asbestos safety, ect… They're cutting as many corners as they can. I want to know the most common reasons employers get sued and lose, so I can start looking for evidence my employer is doing those things. What violations have the best chances in court?
