Running a department with no training.

I recently got a job at a deli and it seemed alright they hired me for nights part time. A week into my job as a deli clerk they tell me I'm going to be moved to days 5 am to be exact and that they couldn't do part time it was full time or nothing. I felt deceived because that's not what I agreed to in the interview but went with it. I did one 8 hour shift shadowing the hotcase manager to begin my training at the end of the shift I was informed that the manager was taking a vacation and I would be taking over the department for those 2 weeks starting the next day. I had one day to train and now I'm running a department by my self 2 days in and all I've managed to do is get yelled at and written up…

i think my job has a sexism problem and won’t address it

For context, I am a 28F in a purchasing divison and work with 2 males and my manager is a female. I have always noticed that the men I work with treat me like I don’t know what I’m doing and constantly question my judgement. I’ve had them try to teach me about laws that I am knowledgeable on and am required to know in my job. And I was the one who introduced them to the law as a way to explain why I have to process the project in a certain fashion. They have been making it very difficult for me to do my job because they are not trying to help me, but then complain when I take too long. A significant instance of what i interpret as sexism happened with my male coworker and manager. He had been telling a male project manager that it has…

Constant fear of being fired because I don’t fit in the company or I’m not social enough.

So every time I start a job there is the fear that I don’t get renewed my contract because I don’t fit in the company or I’m not social enough./make work friends. However I always do a good job and do my tasks, but I am not that interested/invested in being sociable. If is for me I would be more than happy to do my job good and that’s it. What would be a wise advice in this situation ? Is everything doomed?

“no one in management likes how you do your job”

I (28m) just sent my resignation letter to a dead end job I had for 6 months. I got hired thanks to a friend, I was promised a designer position, it has just been data entry and call center duties. I have since found out the company does everything “slightly” out of what is considered legal in my country, just enough that the ceo and upper management can make their millions and our lawyer can always make everyone come out clean. Even before my letter someone must have spilled the beans to some manager because the general manager, who hired me himself, came to me earlier and told me “I heard you want to leave. Just do it, you don't need to work the two weeks notice period. No one in management likes how you do your job anyway.” I had some disagreements with my manager before, but I strongly…

Now this is how you keep quality people!

A friend’s partner is applying for a job at a fancy new resort. He was telling me about the benefits and they are great! If you want to keep quality people, this is how it’s done! Salary is decent for the area and role. I’m guessing an airline is partnering with the resort because you get a number of free flights a year. After your first year, you get a $10k bonus. If you stay for 10 years, you get a 100k bonus. Their job fair is packed and they will probably take the best of the best.

“Manager” tried making me drive after surgery

I'm in the US Army and I just got my labrum repaired (after 2 years) and the next day, this very confused and very dumb (but probably very fast) man tried forcing me to drive 45 minutes because I didn't give him the opportunity to tell me I can't be at home. Why retention bad 🙁

My boss caused my co workers to hate me.

So I M(35) am the only male in an front of house restaurant crew. Im the beverage and alcohol manager. Two months ago a co worker and I were moving a really heavy piece of equipment with a strap harness and I ended up getting a compression fracture in my back. I was out for two months. I recently returned to work and the bar was in disarray. Dirty, unorganized, and out of some necessary items we regularly stock. So I went to work getting stuff right again. Well the other day I noticed that the rest of the crew was being really cold and short with me. I was being friendly and professional like normal and wracking my brain what I could have done. Were they mad at me for being out injured? No, turns out the owner had made a misogynistic comment about needing a male to keep…

Chronic unerpaiditis

Started this job 3 months ago. So far I'm yet to receive the correct pay for the month. I sent my second (out of 2 so far) pay dispute to the payroll woman who this time got all defensive, asking how I worked out the figure I came to for the outstanding balance I was owed. Little does she know that before becoming a chef, I was an accountant, so I essentially did her job for her, but correctly, and drew up two correct wage slips with the correct hours and tax deductions on. I await her response. I'm also handing in my weeks notice tomorrow as my trust in the company is so damaged it's too far beyond repair. I stopped working for myself so I didn't have to do my own accounts, and here I am, doing my own accounts. Byeeee.

Just started filling out rental applications; we really are headed towards a dystopian nightmare

So my girlfriend and I have decided to move in together, and as a result have been looking for houses for rent. The area I live in is a pretty up-and-coming city, and despite the fact that both my GF and I earn quite well for our age bracket, we are completely priced out of a home that would be even remotely fit what we are looking for (ironically this wouldn't be the case even around 2017). While that's frustrating in and of itself, on top of that – as we've been looking for rentals – there are an absolute plethora of options available in this city. I mean, in some neighborhoods it seems almost every other house on the block is for rent or will be available in the next few months. It's so painful to see some of these properties listed for around $4,000/month to rent, when they…
