Student debt forgiveness is a great idea. But, why stop there? Only the most disadvantaged don't get the opportunity to go to college either by cost, or lacking the education to see the cost-benefit of a college degree. Now, seeing student debt forgiveness is a process by which to retroactively reconsider and fix past choices, I propose the following: Of course, we pay off all student debt. Let's say it's $32,000 average. Including for those who have already paid off student debt. Next we must recognize a college degree on average provides the average person an additional say, $22,000 per year. So, all the people who didn't go to college deserve a $32,000 lump sum (+ interest), plus $22,000 (+ interest) for every year they've been alive after legal age plus four years. Thus, a 30-year-old receives $186,000 and is given $22,000 per year henceforth until retirement age. Naturally, these…

What is the most ridiculous request a manager has made to you? Resulting in thinking ‘You could have done that yourself’ or ‘Is this even legal?’

I want to know what happened that made them want to do this. I’m a prep cook, so I spend the most time in there, and besides cooling off (ac only works in the front end, the back is sweltering) and checking my phone (it doesn’t have service in the walk in, so I can only read messages, they don’t send until I leave the walk-in.) Is this normal? The company owns several restaurants from 2 different franchises. We do have a few locations that probably have employees vaping in there, not my location that I know of. And one restaurant manager claims they fell in the walk in, and broke their foot and is getting workers comp so that might be why.
Coworker and Gross Neglect
Anybody have any issues with coworkers who straight up neglect their basic duties leaving you with the brunt of the work? I work in utilities that provides 24/7 coverage of a major brewery. We deal with high pressure steam, ammonia refrigeration, hot and cold water distribution etc. The bare minimum of our job as a 4 man team is to write daily logs in a book and on the computer. Things like temperature readings, pressure checks, trouble calls. It requires you to basically show up and walk around, very simple. There is a 40-something year old man, who DAILY ignores these simple tasks, which is down right gross neglect when it comes to OSHA PSM Operating Procedure OPS-010. Ammonia refrigeration equipment has to be checked twice per shift for variations in pressure. I understand work sucks and we are here on off shifts 7 days straight but looking at pressure…
hi all, im 20f, i’ve been working at this restaurant since june of 2022. recently there has been an awful lot of chaos at my restaurant because my general manager and one of the assistant managers are looking to be fired. a lot of my coworkers have been fired or there’s been drama. i’ve never been involved with anything, never worried about losing my job as i show up, don’t complain, do my work, i’m like a literal ghost! i will make a note of saying this manager who is doing this to me is afraid of losing her job position, because our general manager has already lost his. long story short, a few people got fired and have gone to HR and filed something against our GM and this assistant manager. she goes around the restaurant now saying things to us like “if i hear one more of you…
Protest/what to do
I made a post a bit ago on here saying something like yeah shit sucks but what do we do about it? And I'm sure we already know it's hard cuz we're already living paycheck to paycheck. We'll it's not much but this is one of the things I came up with: I'm gonna try to call every corporate office I can and ask questions like “Do you offer your employees a living wage?” “Whats the lowest paid workers rate in your company?” Questions along those lines. I'm sure they're not gonna go omg yeah we need to pay our workers more. I'm just looking to be a thorn in their side and make some noise. I'm going to be doing this myself whenever I can but I'm just one person. But can you imagine if so many people every day called in asking these questions? Just non stop ringing…
With the 4th of July next week we have tuesday off work but on Friday my boss said that we would be staying at least an hour late every other day next week to make up for the lost day, and he does this for every holiday we always either have to stay late on the days around it or come in on the Saturday before or after. What is the point of taking a day off to celebrate with the rest of the country if it just means the week around it is jam packed and stressful? Youd think theyd factor the day off into the schedule considering these are days that we have off EVERY SINGLE YEAR and know that we have it off well in advance, i could understand for something unpredictable like weather maybe. But literally every holiday we have off? Come on dude
Perceived discrimination
My boss dismissed all my claims of discrimination and harassment as “perceived” How can I prove it is real vs. percieved
