So I dropped out of school and needed to get a job to help my gf out w rent. I got a job a few months ago that pays barely over minimum wage, so better than nothing. It's not hard work, but it can be very stressful if it's busy. My manager(GM) had to take care of something family related so I was left to run the store alone for a week, with no extra pay. It has been the busiest week I've ever seen there, the company is also making record profit right now. I called in sick 3 days ago but my GM was unexpectedly not back yet and the area manager(AM)(who is above my manager) said I have to come in anyway, GM saying I could take the next day off. Hello Everyone, I am facing a dilemma. I recently got hired for a new job which will hopefully turn my life around after many (admittedly) poor choices, and people taking advantage of my poor choices, put me into the painful situation of being homeless. My problem is simple on paper, but something I just can't figure out a solution for. I have onboarding/first day for a new job tomorrow I got hired for which is great. I have all my documentation, past the drug test, so I'll get to learn the ropes. After onboarding, I start fully on Tuesday the 11th. It's a full-time $22/hr position with commission, 5-days/week with a internet/cable sales company. I even have a roommate deal being worked out (though not until Thursday), and I'm hoping through this job, I'll be able to save up, and eventually will (hopefully) save enough to become self-sufficient and get…

“Oh, your back hurts? Try being me! Everything from my neck down to my toes bothers me all day and every day! Take some ibuprofen and get over it!” My shoulders, back, and feet always bother me in some way, shape, or form but it’s become normal for me so I just kind of keep going. I don’t ever make it about me when someone says they’re hurting. In fact, I’ll often end up pushing myself harder to make it easier on them. But then I’ll have some kind of new pain, such as a tooth abscess, and I just can’t work with it. I’ve had coworkers tell me things like, “Go ahead come to work; I have some [insert narcotic] that you can take.” Like, no. Why can’t coworkers, managers, supervisors, etc., just be sympathetic and understanding?

Just so tired and depressed spending my days at a job where I don't use my actual skills or passion or pointless expensive degrees, only to barely make enough money to pay rent, utilities, etc. I don't have money to do fun things, go on vacation or even just visit my mom when I want to–can hardly get time off cuz we have a small staff and can't really afford to take time off anyway. As I drive home from work I can feel my car struggling, and I don't have the money for a new (used) car, and keep pushing off going to the mechanic because I know I can't afford it, ran out of gas last week and a co-worker kindly rescued me because I just didn't have money to put in the tank and my car is too old to tell me actually how empty empty is.…
