The most dehumanizing thing to me about customer service jobs.

Not sure if it’s just my country or everywhere but the notion of instant service. Even let’s say you were about to start eating your lunch but a customer comes into your place on employment and you’re instantly obligated to drop it and assist them. It could even be you’re sending a really important message but then an obligation related to serving your customers emerges, then your can never get back around to what you needed to say. Maybe it’s also my lack of boundaries. I feel like I’ve just been trained to be this way and customers even seem to expect it many times.

Discrimination and disrespect

So I work in a plant/warehouse. I have a few diseases that are covered under ada and sometimes have to take intermittent fmla leave for. This is mainly a vent but any advice is much appreciated In a single meeting today at work I was written up for insubordination for telling a manager not to yell at me. The plant is loud and he was 30ft-ish away and yelled loud enough the others could hear it. He was just trying to get my attention and I said “that's fine my bad it sounded like you were yelling”. The write up was for: insubordination getting a attitude with a manager and telling the manager what to do…. In this same meeting I was told it's unfair that I have accommodations that allow me to take needed breaks when my medical issues flair up. I told him that there are accommodations for…

How can I focus at work when doing repetitive tasks?

So, the job I took is entry-level, which I am obviously overqualified for. I have an MBA in Health Admin. Anyways, I work at this doctor's office and process referrals, authorizations and do front desk registration/check out. I don't know if its sitting at a computer all day or the nature of the repetitive tasks, but I have trouble focusing and make silly mistakes. Its not that I don't care about this job. I do. I just really don't feel challenged. I love the company and want to advance within it, and great benefits too! However, I been in this job 2 months, and was planning on staying 6 before making an internal transfer. Not sure how to make these next 4 months bearable? I do sleep enough. I dont have ADD. Not sure what else to do?

Dead ends in America

(CW: Depression, mental health struggles, queerphobia, suicidal ideation) Alright so I've got a story for y'all. I've been working in data entry since I was about 17 when I got on Fiverr and started doing it freelance. I made a killing and it was even paying for an apartment nicely for myself and my boyfriend after we had to leave to escape our toxic and homophobic households. About last year, it started to dry up and I got a job as a data entry clerk for a data collection agency and would work your average 9-5. But soon as more people were quitting I was being toppled with more work which at the beginning was fine and I thought “this is my job, I got this!” But when it was that I was working 12 hours on my anniversary with time off denied I felt like I was crumbling. My…

Not ready for the promotion

Direct Boss got a promotion to another department about 6 months ago, I applied for his job, but the manager says I'm not ready for the promotion…. I inquired about what I could do to meet the requirements, no answer. The following happened Outside Candidate number one accepted, then never showed up. Candidate number two wanted to negotiate work from home company said no, he rejected theoffer.  Candidate number 3 wanted more money, so nope. Finally after 5 months an internal candidate was accepted , of course I have to teach him the system and all the ropes.   My Direct boss and I have been training the new guy for the past 4 weeks. On Monday he says: This is ridiculous ,the job description is not what the manager said it was. I don't understand why they didn't give the job to ” the_tinbear ”   Ends with : I will speak…

Employer threatened to keep tips to run ads to replace us

The name explains it. I am a night manager for a small kitchen in Ohio and we all work front counter so we just pool our tips together, put them in the work safe and split them at the end of the week. Everybody is cool with it. Well, I received a message with a tag in our manager group chat this morning from the GM (who strictly works morning shifts). Basically saying if our “nightly checklists” aren't completed 100% every night she was going to keep our tip money and use said funds to run ads on indeed to find our replacements. Mind you, we have literally never used the checklists (because theyre suppose to be signed n dated by whatever manager runs the shift every night) since she wrote them out several months ago, before I was even promoted to this position. It's all fairly basic things anyways…
