I’m not sure if I’m in the wrong. A few months ago, I found out that a huge group of people are being laid off from my job. I’m in a subreddit for that company, that only employees can join. There aren’t customers. During this time, the company was being vague about who will be effected. Someone I knew in another department found the list of the groups being laid off. I posted on this private group. Someone from the group snitched on me. Still don’t understand how they found out who I was, since names aren’t required to join. I was pulled into HR and told I could lose my job due to this post. All the post had on it was the names of head managers whose group were effected. Again, everyone in the group are able to search our internal website to get the names. No one…
Month: July 2023
The company I work for (long-standing, established company) got bought out by a startup looking for a credible name. In only a couple of weeks they've managed to alienate all the existing staff and make it clear that we're all idiots that don't know how to do anything properly. Staff anxiety is through the roof. But man, it will all be worth it when that pepperoni hits my tongue. #soexcited /S
We Subsidize Corporate Welfare
And I’m sick of it. I don’t know if this is the right community to complain but I just need to vent. So many large corporations boast record profits year after year while recommending public assistance programs to their own employees, food drives and seeking public donations because they don’t pay their own employees enough to afford food but want everyone else to feed them, create pamphlets for employees instructing them on how to apply for SNAP, TANF, WIC, SSI, etc. because they pay poverty wages. They would pay less if it was legal. They would just own slaves. We are essentially slaves. I want to see data about the amount of money employees of these corporations are forced to receive from public assistance compared to their astronomical profits, assets, and inflated executive salaries. They are taking advantage of us and pocketing the cash for themselves. Without these programs, they…
Question For YOU personally
Where do you see your human time and energy best spent? If you had more say over your situation, what do you see as deeply worthy utilization of your mental and physical faculties?
At first, I liked my job for about 8 months until we were forced to move to another location and merge with some toxic coworkers and bad managers in that location. At the previous location, I was working hard, always showing up on time and did my job. Was even about to be promoted until we had to move. At the new location, we were met with bad management and a toxic work culture. Me and a lot of coworkers(from the previous location) hated it. The promotion I was about to get was out the window and the managers were bullshiting about a promotion. They hired new people to take those positions instead of promoting the people who's been there for a while. Strict policies also led to people being fired. Hell, someone was fired for being a minute late from their break. When I tried to work and do…
Explain to a newbie what this is about?
Not judging, genuinely curious. Is it like fuck exploitation? Or just plain fuck working? Period? Obviously there are millions of people doing jobs that are absolutely essential to being alive, food and shelter work at the very least so I assume that’s not what this is about. So can you all give me a basic run down? Thanks
A couple of days ago I had an appraisal meeting with my boss where we talked about my career goals. The discussion ended up going to my need to network and talk to senior people in my industry because I'm an entry level worker. He told me that I should make a LinkedIn and that this would be my goal until our next meeting. I expressed hesitance. For context, I am a private person with no social media, so making a LinkedIn is 100% against my values. I already told him on a couple of occasions that I don't like my picture or personal details anywhere. But since I didn't want to give the impression of being an unreliable employee, I agreed to make one. Especially being a junior employee, I felt pressured. I agreed even though I was absolutely against it inside and didn't see myself creating one. His…
We have 50-60 outside techs at our yard. By law and we are required to carry ” adequate amounts” of potable water on our trucks at all times. A liter an hour is recommended on the OSHA site. The company is providing us with a dirty ice machine and a disgusting hose. I pulled the filter off the other day and it looked like coffee inside. I got the union involved and we think the resolution will be a new ice machine and we can fill our 3-5 gallon Igloos at the drinking fountains in the office. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a law that requires a specific amount of spigots for our amount of people? It doesn't seem fair that I need to hold a 30-50# container for minutes at a time for fresh water. If I'm the wrong place to ask I apologize. Thank you. I'm in…
So this is a fishy animation company that does top-tier films in the country but don’t want to spend any money to hire lead artists. I am one of the two people that does character design for the company and the two of us are both interns that gets paid $20 dollars a day. I know. $20 a day for top tier film character designs might be unheard of but it is not too outrageous in this country sadly. And I am known to be prolific and produced many characters that passed my boss’s critique and everyone knows that. Long story short, a supervisor (not in the art dept) decided to yell at me during a meeting for “producing things that I only like” despite the fact that my character art were accepted by my boss himself and basically told me I’m a piece of shit for giving a male…
