Applied for a different job at the same company I work for now and unfortunately I did not get it. Normally I would be understandably disappointed but given what I know of my manager to be I'm almost more relieved than disappointed? Took weeks for them to get back to me about the job posting, and even then they drug their heels on getting interviews set up. Anyone I've talked to about it says that's normal for this person and no one seems to like them. I only applied because the job would be less physically intensive while paying potentially 40% more. While I'm not happy I didn't get it, I am relieved to finally have an answer (
Parnter is off today, but I can't go to them because I have a mandatory birthday luncheon for an account executive. A mandatory birthday lunch that everyone pays their own food.
When I was hired for my current role (full-time, salary) part of my contract stipulated that after one year of employment I would be guaranteed a cash bonus. This bonus was not dependent on performance or a review, just that I needed to be working at the company for 1 year. The team recently underwent a series of lay-offs, and while I wasn’t laid-off, my hours were cut pretty drastically. I haven’t signed an updated contract. My one year anniversary at this company is coming up in a couple of weeks and I haven’t heard anything about my bonus. Should I ask if it’s still guaranteed? Do I have any recourse if he says that it’s no longer available? The bonus was a big reason why I took the job because the salary and benefits are lower than industry standard.
I'm at a relatively small company and sometimes it feels like my only job is to give my boss information/decks/results to make herself look good in front of her superiors. Is this normal? I'm in it day to day, yet she's the only one who gets to talk about it.
“We’re hiring in Las Vegas!”
My company is based in the Midwest and up until now, we have only hired local employees. However, we have transitioned to 100% WFH since Covid. Our management team recently announced that they would begin hiring remote employees who live in the Las Vegas metropolitan area, of all places. They straight up told us that they will be taking regular trips to Vegas for “team meetings” (and Lord knows whatever else because you know, tax write-offs) that obviously the company will be paying for. Meanwhile, the rest of us will be stuck back here on Zoom for said meetings. For context, my team and I have been fighting and clawing for a raise for months, which our company can EASILY afford. After all, we’re constantly gaining new business and our profits are at an ATH, at least according to our charts from the last team meeting. So what is the…
It’s the managers- WFH
Many companies are clawing back WFH but for different reasons. I worked in pharma as a secretary and my friends were saying it was the bosses not showing up. The managers complain about productivity but they aren’t onsite to make decisions or facilitate communications. A lot of layoffs in pharma have been managers not wanting to return or they have gone fully remote. It’s hypocritical to demand workers return when the managers don’t want to come in.
I recently became a substitute teacher. It's my first “big girl job” and I was excited when it happened at first. I looked up how much they make and google told me around 15 an hour which I was extremely excited for because I moved in with my boyfriend recently and I'm going to have to help pay bills. Orientation came and they told us we would be making 70 dollars a day for a full day of work. The most I can make in a week is 350. But it's not always guaranteed there will be available jobs every day. I could only work 4 days this week and two of those days were only half days. My paycheck will be like 200 dollars for this week. I'm only going to make enough to barely get by. Living paycheck to paycheck. Im devastated. I don't know what to do…
