Granted, he had plenty of money to fallback on in the series “Mad Men.” But when he ran into difficulty with work, he just decided not to show up and took off on a vacation for a couple weeks. Like in the final season, instead of going to work for the new company, he just takes off and takes a sabbatical out to California.

I called out
I called out today. About 15 mins before my shift. They asked why and I said I had other things to do. Which is true. Whether those things are important to the other person on the other side or to anyone else in the world I don't know. Because I choose to remain discreet. Chances are they will not find them important because they won't align with their values. My manager texted me afterwards with good points. He said I have a responsibility to my job. It is unfair to the company. And they had 6 people call out today. And I would be #7. I would make 100 bucks today if I worked after taxes. I could make that 100 bucks or more today or more in roughly the same amount of time as my work shift. But will I don't know. To be able to move freely and…
Our boss told us 3 weeks ago and reinforced and echoed that we would be off. 2 days before this the VP comes in and says we do not get the day off due to him not thinking we should. And anyone who made plans will be forced to use PTO. Are they allowed to revoke this day off on such short notice and force people to use PTO?
Still having server nightmares
I waited tables for about 7 years and I quit a year and a half ago. Hopefully permanently. I still have serving nightmares. This week I dreamt that I had to get 7 waters and 7 coffees for three tables at the same time and 2 sets of those drinks were for a table that wasn’t mine. The coffee ran out after I poured the first three and then they were cold before the other pot finished brewing. Then someone started taking drinks off of my tray. In the dream, I quit on the spot. It was a throwback to a job that I made about $7.50 an hour at on average… minimum wage in Texas. Sorry for not posting this in the server subreddits but seeing those subreddits triggers too much anxiety in me. I can’t handle seeing all of it. Just bored so thought I’d share 🤷️
So I've been working at a school teaching music for 2 years part-time. I've also worked their after-school program, which is a different hourly rate. In the spring, I became a classroom assistant, which I worked around my music schedule. So I worked two different jobs, at two different pay rates. The teacher I was working with got fired and my boss made me reinterview for my classroom assistant position. She also cut my pay for music by 25%. Then after interviewing for the classroom assistant position she didn't give me a job and I was only the music teacher part time. I think this was shitty of her. Is it legal? Are there any actions I can take?
For context the minimum wage in the UK is £10.42 p/h. I was thinking of going with this company, but seeing their 'part time' hours, I think I'll give it a miss.
Write-up because my kid has pink eye
Long time lurker, first time posting (I think 🤔), My sweet goblin got the pink eye and had to stay out of school for 24 hours. No biggie. Told work I wouldn't be there and went on with life. My friend texts me this morning to inform me that anyone who didn't show up today would be receiving “disciplinary actions”. I'm honestly not concerned about the write-up, I have doctors notes, I'm in a union, and I have no prior “disciplinary issues”, it means nothing. However, going in tomorrow with this knowledge makes me want to have some snarky, smart-ass responses ready! So, I've come to you fine people! You always have the best responses and I'd love to see how you would handle this. I'm looking forward to the laughs!
I was a manager at a tech startup company for the past 2.5 years, and I recently found out this week that my entire team and I will be laid off as the company will be outsourcing. I found out today that this was my company's plan for the entire past year, and I even turned down a job offer I was handed in October of 2022 after I was given a promotion and substantial raise as an incentive to stay. They did this knowing that they weren't going to keep me for much longer. The lesson here is to NEVER take an incentive when giving notice to your company. Don't take the promotion, don't take the raise — just leave. It shouldn't take the threat of leaving for them to give you a raise/promotion, anyway. I feel so much regret right now.
I had a terrible experience over the weekend. Someone under the influence attacked me with a machete but I was able to disarm them and gain control of the blade. I suffered cuts, bruises and am sore all over. The next morning I made some calls after less than 3 hours of sleep to get things going and had to connect with work to get some time off. In their usual operating efficiency they managed to fumble that royally and then asked me to directly talk to my boss. I did. Leave granted for 3 or so days with a reminder to come back Monday. Ok whatever. I will try to rapidly heal. Get a text like 20 min later from my boss to help figure out some work related issue as I am the only one in house who does the job. It took a lot of willpower to…
The short of it: Recruiter reached out to me for an interview for a client success manager position. Strings me along since Sunday night trying to nail down an interview date/time. I finally get this response from her today. After stewing about it for an hour at my exercise class, I go back to my car and pound out this response. In other news, I think I’m ready for a career in corporate communications.
