My bf works in a restaurant that sells Buffalo wings. For the past few months (all summer) the AC has not been working. They had someone come fix it but it still doesn’t work. He constantly complains to the managers and general manager about the heat but there is still no time frame for when it will be fixed. We are currently in a heat wave of over 110 degrees outside. The restaurant has got to be at least 100 degrees especially in the kitchen. The dining room itself feels like 90+. He comes home with his clothes soaked in sweat and when I visit him at work I can barely stand to be in there. Recently their water machine isn’t working and all of the drinks are hot with no ice. He gets no breaks and the corporate office is looking to push his and his coworkers hours from…
Month: August 2023
History always repeats itself.
Jobs have become like those free apps you use to make money on. Use do surveys for 5 hours and you get to walk away with a $1.50. What I mean by this, is the sheer amount of time you dedicate to that app(or job) the money you make will never actually be worth it for the time you spend on it. You will grind away your life just to never be able to pay your bills, never have a savings, die before you can ever retire. It's simply just not worth it. The amount of money a standard job pays isn't enough to support a family or yourself. People used to just work and support their 4 kids on 1 income. That is now barely possible. Both parents are forced to work to support their families. We spend atleast half of our waking lives to work at a job…
Co-Workers Hygiene At The Office
****This is fuckin nasty – beware reading on.**** I work in an office setting, bunch of paper pushers and clerical nonsense. People dress nice, and are clean cut. I often notice just how bad the office common areas are treated (kitchens/restrooms/smoking patio, etc) and wonder based on the lack of very general courtesy or effort – what some of these people's homes must look like, and how disgusting their personal hygiene must be. There is one guy, that literally must cure ham hocks in his crotch. Like imagine cooking a slab of bacon, keeping it in your jockswab for 2 weeks, and slowly eating the pieces as snacks until its out, and repeating the process – without showering at all in between. Ive walked into the rest room after him, and used the urinal he must've used – and the smell coming from the area is literally more disgusting than…
I got laid off in May from Firm A. It sucked. The one other person on the project resigned at the end of April. Even before she gave her notice, we were pulling 50+ hour weeks to meet a firm deadline. I worked 60 and 50+ hours the two previous weeks to my layoff to compensate for the fact that there was only one person on the project instead of two (at least I got overtime). I recommended my friend and former coworker from Firm B to replace the person who was leaving. I admit, I was desperate for help and wouldn't have normally wouldn't have recommended someone come to Firm A, but I knew he was unhappy at Firm B. After my layoff, I got in touch with my old firm and got rehired. Reconnected with my old friend. Turns out he is interviewing with Firm A. Gave him…
When you, as a human, lack value.
I was hoping for a raise. Nothing crazy mind you, just a nickel or a dime an hour. In all the hours I work, it could have helped so much. I was given a 20 dollar gift card to a burger place I would never go to, because if I had an extra five bucks, I could get a soda. They were, “TREAT YOURSELF!” I feed myself on 20 a week. I could work in that burger joint and make that in an hour and half. My dad said, if you need to, shovel shit, someone will pay you for it. The pyramids were built by workers givev bread, beer, and a job.
I'm stuck at a crossroads… please help – any advice or opinion would be appreciated! I'm 22 years old and for the last 13 months, I've been an IT Recruiter. When I first joined the company, I was told there was flexibility in hours, remote work privileges, and an uncapped commission plan with potential to make over 6 figures. As someone who didn't go to college, I thought this was a great opportunity as it would look great on my resume, serve as a stepping stone to something more “elite”, and I could make unlimited money based on how hard I work. However, none of this has come to fruition after 13 months. My company is struggling and the market is super slow… Management is unhappy and ended up firing tons of people, and then forcing the remaining staff into office 5 days a week for 9 hours a day.…
Arts education Nonprofit has burned through more employees than I can count since I started. CEO doesn't listen to feedback, only gave 2% cola raises over the past 2 years. My good manager left 2 weeks ago now I'm out. I have been to schools to recruit. 8 have done graphic design for flyers and ads, I taught classes, I setup and planned events, for nothing. For nothing. Now I am leaving.
