I'm looking for people that have actually made a claim for unpaid wages with the Department of Labor. My story is long, so I will just stick to the main points: I never got a consistent paycheck on-time (employed August 2022-January 2023) Pay was only direct-deposited once. Otherwise, it would come as a wire transfer, paypal, or cashapp. I would have to eat the fee if I wanted my money instantly. The company went under and I was laid off with no warning the first week of January. At mid-January, the peak of owed wages was over $8,000 (just take-home pay) I immediately filed a claim with the Department of Labor Months go by where I called in every so often, and I eventually got a letter that stated I would be contacted for a hearing between myself and former employer. I will need to submit documents and can choose…

1 week of PTO
i just interviewed with this company that not only offered 1 week of PTO per year but also fully in office with no remote work option. 50k as a data analyst. is this the bottom of the barrel ? 1 week of pto per year? . the recuriter was like it goes up next year to 8 days..he got me there… i gotta work there for a damn year just to get one whole week of PTO for the entire year? why the fuck companies think this is acceptable. 7 days of PTO along with fully in office needs to die because that shit is massively outdated.
So I did a really good job at my work for two years. I had other teachers and people I worked with say I did a great job. The manager was always happy with my work. However, it was my time to move on so I put in my notice five weeks before leaving. I am not under contract, but I do work at a school so according to the principal who is my manager, he felt it was too late to be putting my notice in. In actuality, he’s an at-will employer and I’m an at-will employee, and I do not need to give longer notice than that. He basically told me that I ruined everything and it was late notice but when I talked to some of the other teachers they said it was actually really really good because two weeks is standard even for school. They just…
40hrs PTO for first post-grad job
I graduated college a few months ago and to everyone’s surprise, I couldn’t find a job in my field /s. After running out of money, I started applying to jobs under my experience/education level. I started a 15/hr job in retail that I am told will lead to a management position in a few months. I hate the fact that I am essentially selling people expensive shit for commission, but I the things I sell are things that are in a field I love and I meet a lot of artists. Anyways, this is my first full-time, long-term job, so I really didn’t know what was normal vs fucked in terms of benefits. I accepted the job out of desperation, but now that I’ve been there for a bit, I’m disgusted with the PTO policy. It’s 40hrs per year, which includes sick days. I’m not sure what’s “normal,” and my…
What the fuck is happening??
I interviewed for a barista position, something I’ve done for over 8 years (since high school, on and off). Interview with the owner went great, we really hit it off. She told me should would message me a potential schedule. I was sure I got the job. (It’s min wage plus tips in a hospital cafe) I had just as much coffee experience as the owner did. There was one girl working there who was still in high school. This is the message I received. Hi X, Thank you for meeting with me yesterday to discuss the position. I'm hoping you would like to work/train the next three days, paid, to see what it's like at our cafe and then we can go from there? This would be a great opportunity for us to get to know one another and make sure it's a good fit. If so I can…
I just accepted a job last week, and I start orientation this Friday, and start work next Monday. It's a welding job that's 40 minutes away from me, and I'm making $17 starting out. I've found out (thanks to my last post on my account) that it's sort of insulting low in Ohio. I want to interview other places to see of I can get another job that pays better. I still want the job so I have an income for the next 2-4 weeks before I find another job. Is it unprofessional to quit 2-4 weeks into the job? My other question would be, say I work at job A for $17, and find out I want to work at job B because they're paying me $20. Would it be wrong of me to ask job A to pay me $21 for me to stay? Any advice is appreciated,…
Got fired for taking a break.
TL;DR I was on paid 10 minute break, sanctioned by the company policy, my coworker “caught” me in my parts room sitting at the desk inside, so he actually CALLED the manager to tattle on me and I was fired on the spot. I wasn't informed that the company policy dictated exactly where and how I was supposed to take my break. For some details: I was working as a maintenance guy in a factory. I have specialized skills that nobody else on the maintenance team has (robotics) and that's why I was sought out and hired. I am a veteran and a professional with almost 9 years of experience, and I'm making around 75k/yr. Anyway, to begin, I did the interview and things seemed to be alright. The HR lady was happy to find someone with my skillset and the Manager (we will call him Roy) explained the plan…
I got a new job recently as a security guard. Has been decent so far. I get along with everyone and has been going well enough. Except for the guy they have training me. ( we'll call M). M has been fine for the most part. And I don't want to lead people into believing that I'm going down a MAGA hole. That's not where this is going. M is a 2nd generation immigrant. Who is very religious. And pretty much wevery 3rd sentence he says is something to do with God. Me: Hey M how are you doing today? M: Doing great my man. No bad days with God on your side. Me: hey man, what do we do if someone does -insert potential issue for security- M: oh no problem you call it in to dispatch as code x and do this. But don't worry man, I'm here…
Gen manager is an absolute asshole. I work in a Travel Plaza as night shift custodian and not by choice. I was forced into changing shifts despite availability showing I couldn't work graveyards. As a condition of this forced shift change, I was approved for shift differential + a small raise of $0.22. So 1.22 total. It was approved, An email sent to HR. Fast forward 3 months to last week. I'd finally gained access to my check stubs through out system, UKG, and it was $120 short on every paycheck. I did the math. I was still at my original plus the .22… so I informed my store manager and she got with the Gen manager. He responded, your wage is your wage your not getting shift differential. I calmly reminded him there is a paper trail showing approval. He snapped it won't be done. So, Shrugging, I said…
Boomers were born between 1946-1964, so their average age is probably 69. The life expectancy for males is 73 years. There's 4 years left before the average boomer reaches 73 and 13 years left for the youngest of them. https://preview.redd.it/pkqdleaixrjb1.png?width=239&format=png&auto=webp&s=5e3678ec439463ab457e15b3d7ca16df76559d48 I mention males specifically because most bosses are male. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/nchs_press_releases/2022/20220831.htm https://www.zippia.com/boss-jobs/demographics/
