After thoroughly reading the handbook for new additions, I realized there was some changes about hygiene standards. I decided to keep a tooth brush and travel sized tooth paste at work, along with a brush and some other personal hygiene accessories. They also added something about facial hair, so if they ask me to shave, I'll bring a razor in too. After a few months of brushing my teeth and doing my morning routine on the clock, no one has said anything to stop me. I justify it as, I was doing them anyway but if my job wants me to upkeep a certain level of hygiene, they can pay me to do so. That's why i recommend everyone keep a tooth brush and tooth paste at work, at the very least. Nothing feels better than feeling fresh on the companies dime. 😉
Month: August 2023
So I (23F) work for a relatively small, very niche engineering firm. I was hired in the spring to be basically everything from the first point of contact for current and potential clients (in person, over the phone, and the internet) and also do a ton of miscellaneous duties, everything from office supplies and setting up email addresses and stocking the kitchen, to planning events and serving as a quasi assistant to our director and three other executives. It’s a ton of work, I basically live at the office. But I’m young, single, and had no problem jumping in with both feet. The pay isn’t amazing but it’s ok and it helps that we do very interesting work and I’ve been hoping it could be a stepping stone into what I actually want to be doing with my life. That is until this morning when I got called into the…
Is this legal? What are your thoughts?
This just happened today at my work, the paper is on the table where you punch in and out of work. I don’t even think this can be legal. What are your thoughts? Also important to note, the boss doesn’t speak Spanish.
Can't make this up, I'm serving notice at a company that announced in a town hall, “If you don't like it here, you can leave.” Well, about 2/3 of the staff handed in our resignation soon after (this was already after a few months of toxicity & we don't want to prolong it). The management, new management actually, can't do anything about it but they're taking it so personally, like we sabotaged the business or something. “Don't burn bridges,” they said, like… you guys lit the fire. Did they expect us to grovel and beg for them to keep our jobs? No thanks! Anyway I resigned a bit later, together with a few others, so we're being ostracized right now. It's a 2 month notice, pretty normal in my country so I didn't think much of it. I thought only the management has beef with us, but apparently, the normal…
I was fired for vaping at work
Eligible for unemployment ?
My partner has a payroll job with a company based in NJ that was recently acquired by a much larger one based in NY. The company decided to keep them on but with only 1 day notice and said “you'll need to come into our office from now on”. Long story short they tried it out but two hour commute (4 total) is starting to wear them down since they don't have time to do anything after work really then off to bed to do it again. The boss does not want my partner to work in the original NJ office or let them do a hybrid 3 days in NY and 2 days in NJ. So they put in a 3 week notice and were told to sleep on it. Are they eligible for unemployment considering they technically quit? rant: The boss has expressed that it wouldn't be “fair”…
Work From Home for Me but Not for Thee
For those who have taken roles that are “Temp to Perm”, is it worth it? I need guidance. I recently took a temp to perm role after being unemployed for about 9 months with no income (I exhausted by benefits in the US), at a company that does not offer hybrid or remote. Everyone has to come into the office EXCEPT the big boss, she gets to work from home all the time. The company is located in an area of Chicago, that is not easy to get to by public transportation. It's a small office of about 8 people, all of who live close. Most ride their bikes and others take the bus. Me, I live in the suburbs and if I took public transportation, it would take me over 2 hours to get there. 2 months ago I was in a bad car accident that totaled my car,…
Context: I work in Washington State as a paraeducator. Back in June I was given written confirmation that my current position as a paraeducator at my high school was, “Secure regardless of the ongoing funding issues.” Based on that guarantee, I applied and was accepted into a program at a local college that was contingent on my employment at this high school. Today, one week before I was slated to return and two before school starts, I got a call from the executive HR director telling me that, “My services were not needed for this next school year,” IE fired. When I reminded him about this promise and that I had planed my life around this job, including spending time and money that I cannot get back, he said that this decision was final and there was nothing I can do. I'm currently going to apply to other positions in…
