I work for a small business that hires independent contractors as young as 13 to work catering positions at special events, including those which have alcohol being served. I work in the business' office and see all the paperwork that filters through. All of these independent contractors sign up to work events and are paid by the hour. They typically receive a check at the end of each event. I am still an independent contractor even though I work 30-40 hours per week since January 2023. The owners have no understanding of the legality surrounding independent contractors and employees, the differences between the two, etc. I have witnessed many child labor violations since I started working in the office. Children 13 years of age are hired as independent contractors. This is not allowed for the work they are hired for, nor can they be an independent contractor. They are working…
Month: August 2023
Can they just steal my money??
I work as an LPN and currently drafting an irate email but I’m not sure what it will help since the schedulers and DON seem to be on the same side but here’s the situation Last month, on a Friday I texted the scheduler to ask if there was any need for me to pick up shifts on the weekend. She said no, but to text the nursing supervisors day of if there were any call outs. I did, and was told there was definitely space for me, and so I did 11-7 Saturday and a double Sunday. Incentive was offered for all three shifts so I assumed I would be getting it. Never showed up on my check. Also got yelled at by the scheduler who said “we didn’t need you over the weekend, why don’t you come in some time we want you to?” I said the supervisor…
My coworker got me fired. She was supposed to train me, but she hardly ever did because she always had an excuse like a headache, or some personal issue and she gave bad feedback to my manager ultimately leading to me getting fired in the middle of the day. I want to tell her how effed up she is for doing that. I can’t believe the snarkiness that goes on in the workplace. This is ridiculous. I thought women were supposed to “empower” each other not be catty at F.
There is a new hire on my small team and I feel so overwhelmed with their training process especially because they are only 50% on my project. So I was put in charge to get them up to speed and I even created templates and guidelines to help them. And several shadowing sessions but they still do not pull their weight. Just yesterday they told me they are to busy with their other project that they have to put a pause on training and the status for the topics I already taught them are in “ progress” when it should actually be complete. But they report it to the PM as in progress. The PM has already told me several times to get this person trained up and I’m trying my best but this person doesn’t even report my efforts or the training sessions we do have so it looks…
Why is this so common
hi everyone I need a bit of advice. Last Wednesday I had a virtual interview with a non-profit and about an hour later, they sent me a request for a second interview, in-person for today (Tuesday). As luck would have it, I started getting super sick Sunday so on Monday I email them to let them know I wouldn't be able to come in, and could we meet at the end of the week or early next week. They wanted to meet virtually but I declined letting them know I was far too sick for that (I can barely eat crackers). Today of course as luck would have it I tested positive for covid so I let them know, and they are asking if I can meet virtually on Thursday because they would like to make a decision by the end of this week. This is my second time unfortunately…
The non profit industry is just as bad as corporate. I am sick of it. They’re hiring a new VP at over 100k but they can’t give any of their lower employees more then 20/hr. I fucjing hate it here
New Proposition for US
Jury Duty for Billionaires. But not like regular jury duty. Every 4 years, we pick a Billionaire to be president. Any executuve order they pass and any bills they haven't vetoed comes out of their own personal bank account. Then in 4 years, pick the next one. LOL! Geezzzuuusss, something needs to happen. Idk, seems like a fun idea! Tired of all this useless spending with no limits to these so called “budgets” when taxpayer funds could actually, idk… be put back into the communities that are paying for them. Just a thought.
For context, I work in Ohio and was NOT hired with an open availability.
