Anyone whos been in the workforce long enough knows the story; following a downturn in business my company brought in some consultants to cue up a round of layoffs. We've lost about 20% of our workforce. Y'all know what comes next, right? That's right, those of us who survived the cuts are now expected to take up the workload of those laid off without any increase in pay. It's a tale as old as time, but this time, I'm on “just don't give f*ck” mode. I consolidated all my fellow workers and got them all to agree to hold the line; no additional work until new roles and compensations are secured. I told one of the two consultants in charge of the reorganization that we refuse to bear the burden of mistakes made by upper management and that if the company does not prioritize promotions and salary increases, they can…

My brother (17) was recently hired at a restaurant in our rural town. Keep in mind that the restaurant hasn’t even opened to the public yet, he was only being trained. (Trained as a busser, but was only ever actually doing dishes. Fun.) He was fired for not staying after his shift, the exact words in the text were “Sometimes 5pm means 10pm.” They also said his sports schedule wouldn’t work with them. (Which they said was fine before when he was hired). I’m pretty sure there was some kind of child labor law violation going on too. In our state of Michigan you require a work permit to work up until you’re above 17, which my brother was hired without and went through at least 3 shifts. Absolutely ridiculous, never eating at that shithole.

I work in customer service. Everyone in a customer service/call center environment knows you have to log into a phone system every shift to get incoming calls, log times, etc. It’s all monitored and can be tracked at any time. We also clock in and clock out in a different application. Two weeks ago (beginning of the pay period), I took my hour lunch break and logged back into the phone on time, but forgot to clock in on time. I normally get back from lunch and immediately start working on my emails if it’s busy. I’ve always been that way. Work first, then chill once tasks are done. I clocked back in 11 minutes late. No big deal as that can be fixed and I wasn’t late due to the fact i was logged in on my phone. I immediately informed my boss after realizing through chat since we…
So I applied to an small business rommonded by someone I knew and it was ingredibly toxic or should I say the boss and senior sales reps where. I'd catch them speaking rudely about me to “regulars” in different language. Company was so small that there wasn't an hr to file complaint. I was initially promised training which came in the form of a phamplet. After two weeks of this I decided to leave because I wasnt used to this and it felt unsafe. It's been 7 months and I've noticed I've been harassed, stared at aggressively. It's been a surreal experience just from a two week experience. I have since been self employed and it's gone very well. However I'm considering potentially hiring a PI and building a case due to the harassment not going away. To those who have been through this, I want to know should I…
So yesterday I was really busy at my job since I'm the only one in my warehouse that knows how to fulfill this one accounts orders and couldn't take a lunch. I had asked my manager if it would be okay for me to leave 45 mins early (that's how long my lunch is) and he said it wasn't a problem. I get a message from my supervisor who's at a different warehouse and she's asking me to stay for my lunch and then leave at 4pm. I had told her it would be pointless considering the last 45mins of my shift were to just sit in the break room until I had to leave and that I would be no help since I'd just be waiting to leave. Our scanners make us wait a few minutes if it's the same person trying to scan again. Today we're having a…
I have joined one of the largest cx customer engagement companies in the world, I have this little issue where I am forced to work 9~11 hours a day 6 days a week and get only 3 breaks a day (15 min x 2, 30 min x 1) in which I can't even manage my lunch and coffee+smoke. I was wondering if this is normal for other working people as well?
Seriously fuck you dude. You’re really taking for granted the fact I can run this shitshow for you while you check out. I was ok with it when I felt we were a team and I was supporting you during hard times but not it just feels like you expect this to be status quo when you make 3x more a year than I do. It also doesn’t sit well with me that you’ve been silently letting me bail you out without even acknowledging that I’ve helped you save face in front of all our colleagues, multiple times. Yeah, I’m done with that. Good Luck
My (31, F) department at work recently had a huge change due to the department head retiring and my boss leaving. I really liked them and the new department head is a total mess. That being said, ironically, I feel like I'm doing my best work yet. And so in some way I'm enjoying my job and enjoying that leadership is a total mess. I've never really been in this position before and it kind of gives me the “ick” because I know that leadership is inept, but I also feel like I'm getting opportunities that I didn't have before under the stable, better leadership. It's also getting me noticed (positively) by senior leadership and while a lot of those members are responsible for the state of things, I'm also enjoying the positive reinforcement tbh. I kind of feel like I'm playing both sides and for some reason that feels…
