need urgent advice!!

need urgent advice!! hello everyone. i have a situation i would love additional advice on. i (22f) just graduated from a top university and have been applying to jobs all summer. we all know how tough the current job market is. however, i applied for a position at a very big company with a lot of clout in the healthcare industry, and after interviewing with them, i wasn’t offered the position i applied for but a lower position at the company. this position does not require a bachelors degree, pays $2 above minimum wage, and is pretty demanding time and workload wise. parking in the company parking lot for the day costs as much as they’d be paying me per hour. i’ll also be moving to the city for this position and my rent will be $1000/month, which i’ll be paying myself along with all other expenses. this position is…

Company gives me more work responsibility instead of hiring someone new

Currently in a situation where I’m being given someone else’s work because an employee left and my company decided not to hire someone to replace them. I’m frustrated and I feel taken advantage of. I don’t want to quit (yet) but I do want to find a way to tactfully voice my displeasure and request more compensation for it. I’m sure others here have been in the same situation, any advice?

I am truly lost. I don’t know where I belong

Hi everyone sorry this is more of a rant than anything. Just a bit of background; I am 22 years old and in my third year of marketing at university. I’ve worked in hospitality since I was eighteen, but I was truly depressed. I got treated like shit by customers, and was overall exhausted for shit money. This year I started a new job as a junior marketing officer at a family owned company which I was truly over the moon about as I could finally leave hospitality. Anyways now it seems things are falling apart. I hate capitalism, I hate working ever since I was a child too but I hoped that I might eventually feel satisfied if I had a change of scene. Anyways, The ceo of this company is a millionaire and has everything, last week he came in and basically fired the whole sales team just…

Is this ethical

I have been working at this job fr 3 years now. I do assembly for a for a pump company, we make diesel pumps for fire systems and Also pumps for high rise building water systems. Now I have a coworker who has been here for 40 years he is in his 70s. He gets paid only 20 dollars maybe 19 an hour (for freaking 40 years). He is one of the most honest hard working employees I’ve ever met. He won’t steal a minute of time during a break r anything I’ve never heard him lie or get angry at anyone no matter how much he deserves to be. And he is a cornerstone employee no question about it. But The company has started using an old friend as a contractor to build some of these systems that me and my coworker build and we can’t for our life…

Hazardous work environment?

So I work as an overnight valet. On Saturday when I was working our city had the worst air pollution in the nation due to wild fires (500+ on the air quality index). I’m in WA state and was wondering if there’s anything I can do to get back at the company. Yes I was provided with a mask, no we did not get any form of hazard pay.

Vacations make me realise what life is really about

You can become so brainwashed with the drudgery of a 9-5 that you start thinking that is all there is to life: eat, sleep, work repeat. It's only when you can break away and really deconnect that colour returns to your world. Family, friends, fun.. this is life

Boss said- you are hiding behind the tools and not initiative, while I was literally alone in my shift for the whole year.

I work at a semiconductors fab, shift work 12h 4-4. You do 2 day shifts then 2 nights and then 4 days off when one of them you are recovering from a night shift. This kind of shifts driving me crazy as you literally got to switch from daytime to night time life every 2 days. Can't sleep well, no appetite or any sort of day order. But that's not the case. We are usually 2 engineers per shift, for safety and work reasons, there is a lot of dangerous and heavy equipment, vapors, vacuum, pneumatics, toxic gases, pinch points etc. I am quite new in this team and really quickly learned the tool and started to do my job at best with fast troubleshooting and efficient service. Sometimes when someone is sick or at pto and there is no floater we did get to work alone with someone from…

Just found out some of my coworkers had some commemoration for the work they do even though it’s me who does most of it

I am a cleaner at a supermarket and do over 70% of the night cleaning whereas the rest of the night staff come in every now and then. I do five nights a week, often will stay back to get extra work done (despite my tendency to be in the other end entirely, that being that I just come and go as I please), and even during my usual hours am pretty productive and proactive, going so far as to clean stuff that the morning team are supposed to do IN ADDITION to doing everything I need to for the night clean. So I do a lot of the work. I was talking to a coworker who is not a cleaner, and he mentioned that he saw ‘we had like a special lunch and photos taken of our cleaning team and I didn’t know who the two guys were but…

Major retailers who use self-checkout could be hit with new $5k

This just makes my blood boil Wait they're ditching employing workers and you only want to charge them $5k a year per machine ?! No no no …. what you do is called math. How many hrs are they open? Well then we take operating hrs and multiply it by the state/fed minimum wage and then multiply it by 365.25 (a year). Now you've got a starting point for this Human Replacement Tax. The revenue generate by this tax/fee should be split between training and taking care of the communities where these machines have replaced human labor.

I am going to die because of the economy.

So I did some quick math. Assuming me and my roommate both get jobs (only minimum wage in a 30 min walk. No car) we would barely be able to afford food. And that's with cheaping out. I'm assuming $250 a month or food here for 2 people. With all that I'll be unable to get a vehicle to expand my range so no chance of better paying job. I'm going to die without being able to have my daughter with me. She's safer with her mother who lives with her family. I currently work as a substitute teacher and make around $63 a day. Only on days when a sub is needed. I have filled applications out for every place in town and I mean every place. So has my roommate. We are both broken. Currently we both live off 1 or 2 sandwichs a day. Not an exaggeration.…
