Hey everyone, this will be my first post here and I am doing my best not to overstep any rules with this… I am going through some posts and would appreciate help understanding your views on antiwork. I know how shitty employers are (I'm in healthcare, lmao) and how the system works everyone to the ground. Personally, I like doing my actual job. Am I the only one who finds it very interesting that student loan repayments are starting back up when the job market is at its absolute worst (or so it seems) and when there are more people out of gainful employment than ever before? Edit: I should clarify that this is just speculation due to every job I've applied to having over a thousand other applicants, at least, in the past 8 months.

I'm a mechanic washington state. Alot of us work as “flat rate” or pay based on the jobs we are doing IE a brake flush pays 1 hour, an oil change is .5. And I just got switched from hourly to flat rate told there was no over time. And also was told that overtime is taxed different. I have a decent knowledge in taxes (for a 23 yo) and I know how tax brackets work so this ate away at me. Que Google and looking at government sites. Over time is not taxed differently if anything you will get it back tax season… stumbled across legal literature saying flat rate does get overtime. I just found out that my 16 year old is scheduled for 56 hours this week! Including three days in a row of 12 hour shifts. He is a lifeguard at a water park, so don’t worry he is just out in the ridiculously hot sun all day. I’m pretty pissed about it! And since it is seasonal work, there is no overtime pay. Is this normal?

I have a lot of expertise in my field of luxury retail, and I moved 1000 miles for a job that I expected to retire from, making great money in a role I loved and was great at. We had a huge (six figure) internal theft. You can see – fuzzily – a security guard doing the actual thieving, with two other people acting as lookouts. Despite my company being a big one you would recognize, the cameras are shoddy and misdirected, which means you can see what happened, but it's not enough for prosecution. I did the inventory count that discovered the theft, which was outside my normal scope, because we were wildly short staffed that day and the one employee we have who would have been able to do it is notoriously slow moving and wouldn't have gotten it done in time. In Australia. Dealing with bad communication and training at a place I have been working at. I am getting comments from a more senior person (almost 19 years), things like “It's obvious to me.” And “If you haven't been trained, then you shouldn't be doing task.” Everyone else seems ok but this person is really pushing my buttons.

Last Friday I interviewed for my dream position as the head of a department. Despite my meager wages, this one is a 100% pay increase. So honestly I’m eagerly watching my email everyday waiting to hear back. I’ve gone through three rounds of interviews.

I really don't know what to do. You can easily guess from my username what industry I work in. Sadly the effects of the strikes caught up to us. My husband's work was hit hard due to COVID and we have a lot of debt we want to pay off. I've been applying and have degrees and everything but so far, I've only had one interview and I don't think I'm moving onto the next round. I'm really scared. We have no safety net and our accounts already got overdrawn. I'm not really sure what I'm trying to accomplish by posting but I share the frustrations and disillusionment. I had really good grades and went to an awesome film school. But it hasn't materialized in financial success and it's done terrible things to my self esteem.
