Told my boss in writing I couldn't work certain shifts past a certain date. He said okay. The time rolls around and he says “you actually had to go into your availability on the online portal and change it, so since you didn't, you are still responsible for the shift” But shouldn't he update my availability on his end? I told him a month and a half ago, guess he forgot, now says I'm responsible for it. I'll go if this is genuinely a mess up on my part, what do y'all think?
Month: August 2023
I'm filing for unemployment in WA state and was curious if anyone knows the easiest way to make sure I get all my benefits without having to risk getting a job until my benefits expire? I'm trying to think about ways I can complete their “file for work” requirements without risking having to go in for an interview.
what is this? I After months of nothing job gaps I get nothing. Then all of a sudden with a job people call just to make interviews. Where was this when i had no job? I am working in a grocery store with a woman I really like.
Another sob story about American work
Hey all. Don't think I'm really looking for assistance, just need to put my experience out there. After the pandemic and getting my degree, I got employed at my first Big Boy job. It was a lot of work and there was a ton expected of me but I kind of shrugged it off considering I was getting paid magnitudes more than I ever had been. About a year into my time at this position, it's clear that the toll that the job has on me is quite significant, and with my disabilities, the stress was compounding and doing significant harm to me. After a few months of back and forth regarding what to do about this with my then boss, I was asked to look into FMLA accommodations by my HR. After we had gone through all the hoops and sorted things out with my boss and in the…
so when i was hired into my job in april, they started me off at $17 an hour. on the day they interviewed me they told me that if i could “prove myself” they would give me $19 an hour. in june i had a conversation with my manager about wanting more responsibilities because i wanted to begin learning management tasks so i could move in that direction within the company. he told me that he would give me more and when i get my evaluation in july, i would also receive the $19 because of the added responsibilities. i still have not received the evaluation or the $19 but i have gotten more responsibilities. now they have offered me even more responsibilities that are more management based and i accepted under the condition i would be getting paid for it, starting at the $19 and then getting more once…
How to tell if you’re underpaid?
I'm currently working as a technical writer in South Carolina. I was being paid $45k salary before a 3% raise this year, so it's like $46.5k now or something? Not sure. In every way except pay, I love my job. It's WFH, low supervision (not micro-managed and no spyware and stuff), allowed to be productive at my own pace so long as I meet deadlines, I get along with my supervisor and coworkers (which with my lack of social skills isn't always a guarantee), I actually enjoy the work that I do and feel good and accomplished about it. There's even some slight benefits like bonuses twice a year (between $1-2k each so far). When I look at other people in my area, especially people who are struggling to find a job at all, working in factories or gas stations or other retail jobs, they can hardly crack $13/hr. Even…
September 1 Strike
I’m surprised no one has mentioned anything about the potential September 1st strike that supposed to be happening? I know I can’t be the only one that has heard about this? I felt this would be a great topic to bring to this Reddit considering how the majority of us feel within this Community.
2 strikes, you’re out?
Last week I had a phone interview for a job. 30 minutes after the scheduled time I sent the interviewer a message and asked if they needed to reschedule. They called me an hour & a half past the scheduled time & didn’t interview me, they just mentioned a couple brief things about my resume then set up a time for me to come to the job to be interviewed in person by someone else. Fine, whatever, I was a bit irritated because I’d been with my family before this & had to head home early in preparation for the phone interview so it kind of wasted my evening. I show up to the in person interview & am informed that the person interviewing me had called out that morning. They sat me in the waiting area to see if there was anyone else available to talk to me but…
So I work at a summer camp for kids, and my main job is to pretty much make them have fun. I do that obviously and I often joke around with them and at the end of every week the kids always tell me that they had so much fun. However apparently I got a complaint last week saying “I’m always on my phone and do nothing”. I will admit, there are times where when the kids are busy doing stuff on their own I let them be and check my phone for a bit because I’m human and can get burnt out. We also don’t have assigned breaks, but we are allowed to call our manager to cover us any time however I feel pretty intimidated to ask my manager to cover me since they’re pretty busy, and I’ve never heard anyone ever ask for for a break (everyone…
