The idea that home prices and rental prices are this high and it’s creating this much anxiety and stress among regular people is unbearable. A person working one full time job should be able to at a minimum afford the rent on an average apartment month to month and have savings and a decent standard of living. That person shouldn’t have to work 80 hours a week to just barely scrape by. The politicians in the US have sold us out. Democrat or Republican is of no consequence. If you want proof. The best example is the vote for the Iraq war. The vast majority of Republicans voted for that war and 75% of Democrats crossed over and voted for it. There isn’t a two party system. It’s a one party system masquerading as a two party system. One unitary corporatist party. One unitary war party. One unitary party that…
Month: August 2023
Original post was removed, so I’m posting again! I fixed the issue though An old boss just sent me this text: “Hey how bout you come back and pick up some serving shifts for a while…” I worked as a cook and a manager (most of the time being a manager) there for about 1.5 years. I quit because he refused to accept my terms of continuing to work. Basically another manager there who also started as a cook was harassing all the female employees, including myself. He pulled a rag out of my back pocket and rubbed my thigh (to wipe off his hand according to him). Separate occasions which I formally complained about both. He either treated you like dog crap or sexually harassed you. Then he slapped a server on her butt with one of those money booklet things. I told them he leaves or I do.…
Feeling discouraged
I’ve applied relentlessly to jobs and had several interviews that I believe went excellent but have only heard back from one company that informed me I didn’t receive the position.
Basically the title. I worked at a large biopharmaceutical company for 5 years in which my working conditions deteriorated over time where people kept leaving, more responsibilities kept being pushed on to me, lack of promotions, etc. The final straw was when they hired a new manager. He was fine at the beginning but over time I was constantly berated for the smallest, inconsequential mistakes. Such as wrong formatting on Excel, data not being presented their way, and basically anything I didn't do exactly their way. This continued until I left the company. Fast forward I move to another company. Whenever I make a small mistake or take my own approach on items, I now get very uncomfortable, anxious, and a bit scared. The difference now is I am greeted with my new manager providing either good feedback, reaffirm that my mistake was not really a mistake and my approach…
Title says it all Got hired at a print place Hate it with a passion 4 hours in Super boring, no muisic allowed, no phones allowed except on ur 30 minute lunch No water on the floor, have to go back and forth to break room for a drink. All for $16 and hour? Benefits after 3 months, but there’s gotta be something better, right?? Boutta graduate college in January and I’m just so surprised at the amount of shit jobs there are vs decent ones.
I’ve returned to the office 2x per week. Now there are rumors that the fact that some of us have been working wherever we choose and only on our laptops is a “hot topic” with upper management. They think it’s inefficient. My sup gave me a heads up today that he’s getting questioned about it and there might be official requirements for me to sit in my assigned seat and use 2 monitors in the near future. I currently choose to work on an area of the floor without cubes and has low lighting. I like to move a lot and am sensitive to office lighting. I still perform above and beyond their expectations, based on my stats. But knowing them they won’t care what the stats say. Can they make me work in a spot in-office that isn’t comfortable for my body? And if they try, I’d love some…
Farm Work Was Easier Than This
I feel like a spoiled “first world problemer” when I say this, but farm work was easier than the office job I do now and easier than the retail job I used to do. The only two times I enjoyed my life and work were the years I worked on my Uncle’s farm and the months I did film work with a studio in the inner city. That film job did not last. It was an extremely abusive environment where I never even got all my paychecks I was owed, so I’m hesitant to go back. But the farm job… I miss it every fucking day. It was hard work, but it made sense. You get up with the sun. You have a set amount of daily chores to do, that you can easily get done in the day. Then a larger project that you work on over the course…
A senior member of staff assigned me a new client a few hours before I’m going on my vacation. They knew I was going on vacation. I then asked them if they could assign the introductory discussions and calls to someone else, they asked me to squeeze in a quick call after I’ve already said I’m not able to take a call. I’ve now told them again that I won’t be taking any calls / emails with the client. Any ideas? It’s the type of job where you can get assigned new clients regularly, but not that often (maybe once a month).
I love this sub…but….
The more posts I see the more helpless I feel. Just seeing all the posts of what people have to put up with at their jobs is a sheer testament to how dependent we are on 'the machine.' The posts that are really getting to me are the people in Canada and Mexico and California having to go in to work through environmental hazards. It's baffling to me. And these young kids who have been spread so thin so early in their life that they are having a hard time coping. It can't be good for them. Serenity now!
