New York State hospital worker. Boss is sending people home early because it’s not busy.

Totally shit on during Covid. Radiology department in a small hospital in upstate NY. Non-union. Boss is a total dip shit boot licker. Sending employees home early. Working tons of extra shifts, all of us because place sucks. We are FTE 40 hour employees. Is there some program for New York State and federal that compensates when sending us home?

Got laid off and I only knew about it because of my work friend

So I found the best job I had ever had since I got to work with kids (my passion, I had a shit childhood, I love helping out kids who remind me of myself at their age) this was the first time in years that I came into work hopeful, didn't dread every minute, felt important, actually gave it my all (very against my code, I only ever do the bare minimum to not be fired and to not hinder my fellow coworkers who also just need to get by) And turns out, they last minute decide to cut the department I was the lead for, and the only reason I got any notice that wasn't the exact same day, is I was lucky enough to befriend a girl that works the opposite schedule shift as me in that same department So I called my boss and he confirmed it…

I work in an at-will state. Resigned because my boss wasn’t logging my hours properly. He’s trying to retaliate with legal action for “breach of contract”

The title explains most of my situation. I live in an at-will state. I worked for a private healthcare company. Basically I've been there a little less than a month. In this short time, my hours were being tracked on paper, but I have had trouble clocking in and out (hence why I've been logging my hours on paper). I've reached out to my boss (who's also the owner of the company), and he has dismissed me every time I've brought it to his attention. Over the weekend, I've reached out to my operations manager explaining the situation and giving written notice of my resignation. I have also emailed the company directly with my resignation effective immediately. My boss/the company's owner left me a voicemail saying his lawyer will be reaching out to me through mail for breaching my contract, even though my state is an at-will employer. What did…

Looking to join a union, how do I do it and benefit from my membership?

I just got what people consider to be my first “real job”. I am now a salesrep for a big corporate company. I haven't even started yet, but I want to join a union to protect myself. Are there unions for salesreps? How do I unionize? And how do I use the protections a union would give me?

What’s Your Greatest Weakness?

What's your greatest weakness? I saw someone posting about getting asked a variation of this question in an interview on another thread. I was going to answer there but I thought maybe I should give it it's own thread as I thought some people may find this helpful. I used to really hate this question as it felt like a trick question. They're either asking you to be honest and make yourself look incompetent OR they're asking you to do a little song and dance by dressing up a strength as something bad i.e. I care too much, I'm a perfectionist, etc.. On my last foray in the job hunt I finally found what I feel is an appropriate answer to this question that is both honest and won't make you look like a jackass. The answer is tell the truth, give them an actual weakness of yours… but explain…

Only got half my paycheck

Just need to vent. My birthday was last week on the 14th. I ended up accruing around 30 hours of PTO by the time it rolled around so i requested off the entire week except for friday and went to go see my sister a few hours away. I realized on Monday i had forgotten to submit my timecard. Since i was out of town i didn’t have access to my work computer and couldn’t submit it (i WFH). So i texted my boss and asked her to submit it for me. She agreed. I got back home Thursday and logged in that night to see she hadn’t submitted it. Cue panic. At this point it was too late bc the payroll cutoff was on Monday. So i got paid, and it was only half of my check. I just need some validation about how fucked up this is. I…

Ex-employer holding 12 months of payments hostage

I have worked for a company online (registered in the US) for about 5 years. My contract was ended without an upfront notice and I have more than 12 months payments held hostage. It has been 2 months since my contract was ended and my ex-employer keeps playing games such as : your timesheets needs recalculation, you will have fees of this recalculation deducted, send a copy of your ID otherwise nothing will be done and so on. I had no “real” work contract just a Google document of “rules” without any stamp or signature or anything else. I am in Algeria and I can't afford a lawyer and I don't know what to do. The company doesn't have a real physical presence. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

My manager sucks and so does everyone else.

I have been at my job for nearly three years now. I also worked here previously in a different department for three years. There was about a two year gap in between. The woman that trained me was not my boss when she trained me, but she is now. Our manager retired and she was promoted. Ever since I started, I could tell she had a bit of a crush on me. I am also a woman. I was previously married to a woman. She is aware of this. She made comments about how we were working wives and this and that and those comments were pretty harmless at first. Within the last year, the comments started to get more…sexual. She would call me sexy and said that she would “do me” when I spoke of a former friend who had basically called me overweight. There have been other comments…

Harassment fiasco

So a few months ago after starting a new restaurant job (which I am now no longer working at), I had an incident where one of the bartenders was being sexually harassed and asked uncomfortable questions about her sex life by two very drunk regulars. I was walking past with a kids menu and overheard the conversation, and thought it would be a funny, lighthearted, and indirect way to stop them by offering them one of the kids menus in a way that was intended to make it clear that they were being childish and needed to stop. Instead, they turned their attention to me and started calling me “hot” and some other things, which I wasn’t expecting. I had expected a sense of humour and some decency from everyone involved. The server who was originally being harassed then turned to me and yelled at me in front of the…

Annual Review/Performance Improvement Plan advice

Had my annual review today and it was not good. Was informed that we're meeting on Friday and I'm being put on a PIP and my hours are being cut back from 17 to 15. Some of the things that were brought up were valid, but one of my biggest complaints is that I feel like a lot of the things they brought up are objectively unfair. The person in my role on the other team has the advantage of not only having more frequent informal supervision bc she works in the same physical office as our team supervisor, but also the fact that that team supervisor used to be the parent peer supporter for that service area so they see each other & she's physically there for that extra support all the time. She does a great job and has validly set the bar high, but it still seems…
