I haven't worked for seven years since I got out of the army. After seven years, I got kind of bored, and decided to go back to work just to interact with people, and save a bit of extra money while I go to EMT school, but it's impossible to find a job. Around 12 days ago I got a job at Walmart. I mean, they literally told me I had it and would get the orientation three days after I did the background check. After completing the background check, there was nothing for several days, so I called back and they told me that the hiring manager wasn't in, but that my background check was complete and I'd get a call about the orientation soon. Nothing for a couple more days, so I called back and same runaround. I call back today and the hiring manager is suspiciously not…
Month: August 2023
None of my coworkers actually give a flying fuck about my life. All my managers care about is that I’m doing my job and show up on time. I hate being a cog in the system.
I (26F) have been working at this place for around 2.5 years now and we get 22 days of paid leave a year that are obligatory to take. The annoying thing is that I need to request them a year in advance, like in November/December of each year they'll make us request our days off for the whole next year however they don't approve them a year in advance themselves. Just a few days ago I asked my team leader whether my days off requested for October (2023) have been approved to which he said it'll be discussed some time in September. I couldn't believe it. The employees have to plan everything out a year in advance but they can wait all the way until barely a month to let us know if they're approved? I hate this place so much. I know that many people on this sub live…
Do I have to train my replacement?
I don't think it's in my contract . I'm just a machine operator . Can my boss force me to train a new employee?
Why is it that, and what is it within me that feels like a brick wall once I realize that the job im in “ain't hitting it anymore”? I only ask this because this is the second time where work situations and a toxic work environment have gotten in the way of me being able to best preform my duties. My job is flexible as long as I get my 40 hours in a week, how I do my job is up to me (technically). Essentially I started this job about 2.5 months ago and out of my boss and a team of 4 (including myself) everyone, left but me, boss included. My new boss is the boss from the neighboring department and the reasoning as to why shit has been hitting the fan at this new job is because their grant contract is messed up and the program is…
Our landlord is avoiding us
I (18 m) am living with my parents in an apartment in NY. Our landlord Mike has not picked up rent in about three months. This stresses my mom out, she's worried it makes us seem like we're not paying on purpose and the extra, undependable money in her account reminds her every day. Mike is doing this, at least imo, because our toilet fucking sucks and it has for almost half a year now. We keep the bathroom fan on 24/7 because there's about a 90% chance it won't flush and it's easier to just give up after ten minutes of filling the water tank by hand and flushing nothing down again and again. We TOLD Mike he needs to fix it, and he said he would, but we've seen him zero times since then and I don't think he's going to make an appearance any time soon. Idk…
Occupation and Income check
Employers hate when we discuss our wages/salary, so I thought this would be a good middle finger if everyone posts their earnings. You’re anonymous but if you still don’t feel comfortable sharing I understand. This isn’t to flex your success, it’s so your colleagues can see if their earnings are on par with yours.
I hate talking about this because it seems like nobody relates, or passes me off as too young and ungrateful and ignorant, aa I agree, I am inexperienced in almost every job, but that isn't to say I'm “bad” at those I have been in and tried. I'm 19, and I am currently working with Sam's Club. I jave worked several fast food jobs, doordash, and worked at two warehouse jobs, both sucked as management was terrible morally and conditionally. I agree, I am still young and have a lot in my life to do, however, I don't want to spend my early adulthood working and rarely having time to leisure. I like Sam's Club, coworkers are amazing and managers are understanding and better compared to anywhere else, yet, at the same time, I just want to have enough money to afford getting my necessities and spending time for leisure,…
I got a dumb write up, is it valid?
It’s on my record with the company I currently work for and I don’t think I should’ve been written up for it. I was in the break room watching Netflix on my phone and eating lunch. HR walks into the break room as the person on the show I’m watching says the word “fucking”. Mind you, I was the only one in the break room so I didn’t feel like I needed headphones. I was also not on the clock or being paid for this time. I go back to work, get called into the office, and am forced to sign a write up form stating I offended someone with my Netflix show’s cursing. I don’t think I should’ve gotten a write up for something that happened off the clock. What does everyone else think?
Just here to vent …. Company pays me shit for skilled labor Treats my like shit while I'm there. I offer to take on more responsibility….they blow me off. Expected to be loyal. Managers and coworkers upset that because of low pay and poor treatment I took the tools required for my skilled labor (owned by me completely) home and decided not to do those repairs or train for more advance repairs and have told them I'll use the shit tools they provided to do the job. Wanna leave but can't find any other work and have a family to provide for :/ I'm a tired dad and just wanna be appreciated and do work that me and my family can be proud of why is that so hard.
