We got a new manager a few months ago, you know the story – he’s cutting bonuses for extra shifts, writing up over 50% of the staff within the first two months as some sort of power play, promising people promotions and hiring outside staff instead, constantly “forgetting” to add overtime shifts to our paychecks so we have to wait until the next pay period, etc. He’s created an awful atmosphere in general and many of our best people have already left or are on their way out. Since he’s directly fucking with our livelihoods, is it possible to return the favor? I found a post on his Facebook from a while back with a picture of a shirt that says “love thy racist neighbor” (search “Khloe Kardashian love thy neighbor shirt” if you want to see it). Is this enough to get him fired? Also, over 50% of his…
Month: August 2023
I haven’t been able to get in contact with the owner since I accepted the position about a week ago. My first day as GM is tomorrow, and I don’t know if the former GM is technically still employed with us. His two weeks ended but now all of the sudden he’s still got two weeks left and is in charge of the transition – according to him. He was still my boss today, but tomorrow I take his position and I’m not sure if he actually works for the company or not. 🤷️ The owner doesn’t know how to access payroll, so this is quite an interesting situation to say the least. To get paid, an ex employee needs to run payroll. Fucking wild. I’m not sure how a place even ends up like this
How many of you have a budget?
Title sort of speaks for itself. I started working at a manufacturing place in February — big monopoly — and it quickly turned out to not be the kind of job I thought it was. This was the best job that I could've gotten with my resume, as I was only 18 and had just worked fast food at the time I was applying. My partner's mom works here and makes good money, so I thought I'd give it a shot, so it felt like a dream when I heard back. No other job in my area would pay me this much, give me three days off a week, and offer me free lunches, I just can't get over how hard they sold it. Made it sound like the most legit place in the world. Soon after I was hired, I cemented myself as a very efficient worker in the…
Arbeit macht frei (Work Sets You Free)
At the front entrance of the Death Camps in Auschwitz read the slogan “Arbeit macht frei” (Work Sets You Free). I believe that this slogan now forever tarnished by the atrocities of WWII was repackaged as the most common slogan of the last 50 years. “Personal Responsibility”. Those who are already in power have endless incentives to convince enough of the population that their own demise and suffering is their own fault. If only they would just take responsibility, only then would they be able to fix all their problems. It's a castration, a neutering of raw power.
Back in probably February or March my boyfriend (26m) and I (25F) were given permission to go pick up a snowmobile which he (the company owner) wants to purchase from us, with the company truck and trailer. On our way back we had unexpectedly hit a deer going 55mph, damaged the grill and headlights as well as a gas line. He told us back then not to worry about it because it's Michigan and deer accidents happen ALL THE TIME. Fast forward to now we're still demanding our pay from May/June. He wants to tell us he's not going to pay us to cover the damages to said truck (the trailer received no damage). Can he even legally do this, even if it happened on personal use? He still owes us both a total of $800, and getting that money would get us out of homelessness.
