I was let go after a 2 month PIP, that started a month after my cancer treatment. I was recently let go and want to apply for unemployment, but EDD is asking for a truthful answer for dismissal. If I want to appeal, where do I do so during the process? I assume if I state I was fired, it will reject my claim.
Month: August 2023
So, a little bit about me; I’m a 21 year old University Student living in a small town in Ontario, Canada. When I moved back home in late April I started looking for jobs, and landed one at my town’s brewery as a server/bartender in around the first week of May. I’d never worked a job waiting tables before, most of my previous jobs have been behind-the-counter work at either fast food restaurants or retail establishments, so there was a bit of learning I had to do once I was hired, but I was constantly reassured by coworkers, customers, and even my manager that I was doing a good job and making great progress. Now, I had never met the owners really, they were a husband and wife who never really showed up. The wife (referred to hereafter as ‘B’) briefly came by on my very first day, I said…
Termination with cause
I received a termination letter that states my termination will be ‘with cause’ if I do not sign it. Is this considered some form of coercion?
Sending My Manager to HR?
Hi reddit TLDR thinking of submitting an hr case against my manager aka biggest dick of all time. Done things that would warrant a case. Fortune 100 company. A bit nervous it will backfire. Any experience or recommendations? I have been in sales for 3+ years at a fortune 100 tech co and under the same manager for 1.5 years. He is dominating, demanding, vindictive, and beyond self-absorbed. On one side, i do respect his work ethic and drive for results. He busts his ass more than he needs to, but demands the same out of his reps which is over the top. I am lucky because he likes me as a rep and haven’t gotten it bad relatively speaking. I am frankly the only person on my team who stands up to him. However, one of my colleagues was recently forced to quit (manager was making it unbearable to…
The ABC of syndicalist sections
“SAC is currently a small union. We are about 3000 members. Nevertheless, it is easy to give positive examples of what our sections accomplish. One of many successful sections is the section at a food factory in the county of Skåne. The section has pushed through more permanent employment contracts. Health and safety An example of how a minority of syndicalists can improve the working conditions of all employees is a creative notice of action that was declared within Stockholm’s commuter trains. The employer was reluctant to provide staff with warm winter uniforms. The bigger unions within LO and TCO got nowhere in negotiations. The syndicalists therefore announced that they would use extremely ugly uniforms that they had designed themselves, with a photo attached to the notice. The employer then gave the entire staff new uniforms. Another example is my previous workplace, the University in the city of Umeå. Science…
Hello all, I work for an employer that requires me to make deliveries to many independent businesses, and I've met a lot of wonderful people through this job. This post is not about me, though. One person I've met, who I will call Tom, works for one of these independently owned stores as an hourly employee. Tom is very kind, a very hard worker, the store is always clean and tidy for every delivery and he has excellent customer service skills. Tom's employer, who I guess we can call Jerry, has very questionable business practices. As I made my last delivery, Tom is telling me about how he needs to be extra careful checking my delivery to make sure all the product is there, because the last few times Jerry got mad at him for doing it “wrong” and punished him by docking his pay and threatening to fire Tom…
Threatened by coworker
I have been working in a factory for about 8 months and haven’t really had a problem with anybody. I talk sometimes when I’m partnered with somebody but other than that I mind my own business. A woman (43) has been spreading rumors about me (F 20) for about a month now that the reason my last partner left was because I bullied him badly. This isn’t true but since this woman is friends with a lot of people there they believed her. I mostly tried to ignore it because it was just a stupid rumor, although I did have people approach me about it and shoot me dirty looks. I went to HR against this woman a few weeks ago because of something she said to me. I came to work and ignored her looks and rude comments. Things got worse this past week when she started spreading a…
I haven't been able to hold a job for more than 1 year bc I have mental breaks or just can't take it any more. Working conditions suck, people suck, and I must work full time for expenses. I am in hella therapy and even IOP trying to address my own trauma and mental health issues, but now I'm here asking how do you all cope with shit jobs? I think I'm seeing that until the “dream job I'm qualified for” happens I will be stuck with ineffectual management and POS coworkers. I have tried small business work. I have tried local corporations. I have tried a major corporation I'm at now bc it's impossible to fire me. Even when I go to the large corp with hella policies to protect me, it's just awful. My team lead complains all day and gives me as much work as possible. My…
My gf has been working in a state operated hospital for over 3 years. She’s worked a few positions as she’s been promoted within multiple departments, most recently about 2 years ago. After her training she was initially put on the evening shift and paid the evening shift differential. She was subsequently moved to a mid shift which had not been previously occupied. Without any formal notice she was confirmed by most of her coworkers that since the majority of her shift fell in the evening shift, she should still be receiving the evening pay so she didn’t look into it and noticed no change in her checks. This turned out to be false info since the evening differential didn’t begin until 5pm. Fast forward 16 months and she has now received a written notice that she’s been overpaid all this time of a sum close to 5k. Along with…
