Should I quit because of a roach infestation?

Saw a roach on the main entrance door (pretty huge and ugly) and immediately reported it on the work order online. Jobs been putting a slight mental toll which constant screw ups and being yelled at by residents, and side eyed by staff. That’s nothing. However, roaches?? I’m thinking about putting my two weeks in.

Do you ever suspect you lost your job because of medical reasons?

Small rant: It's been hard navigating life as a cancer patient needing treatment, but living in a country without free healthcare, plus carrying a hundred other medical conditions. I lost multiple jobs because of my health. I told my first employer out of college I may be experiencing medical issues, and my work slowed down to a point where they had to let me go. The next job I was glad to get fired from, I was about to go into surgery for my cancer, but the recruitment agency told me the client no longer needed my services, because an employee came back from vacation. J3, I told my employer I had to leave 2 hours early for a doctor's appointment, but I didn't disclose the specifics. This shook him so badly, he had to drag me and several other people into a meeting about it, telling me seeing a…

Too many red flags, so I quit.

UK based. I work as a security guard, currently for night shifts starting midnight to 8:30am. The job application was for part time (24 hours) but found on the interview that each shift includeds 30 minutes unpaid breaks (20 minutes according to my contract). The security manager had me working full time (over 42 hours a week) and said he would increase my hourly rate for doing the night shift, and that my contract would change from part time to full time. I was neither paid more nor had my contract changed, so because I was over working on a part time (seasonal) contract, my head manager refused sick pay. Even when I requested time off to grieve the loss of a family member, both managers barely bat an eyelid. Their excuse was “we have a small budget for security, we'd have to hire contractors” and “we're trying to run…

Stick it out or leave? Got a ‘retention bonus’ coming.

We've been taken over by a larger company, and they have since gotten rid of 50% of the workforce (contractors, I am an employee) and are about to close our office. Our project is doing well, we work mostly remote, so an office is not really needed. They have a competing product but have assured us they want to keep both. I (and three other colleagues, from around 20+ people) have received a retention bonus offer, and I signed it for a retention bonus to be paid out in February 2024. It's significant ($10k+) and I could really use the money. But work is being more and more affected by pencil pushers by the larger company that bought us. They recently did a PCI (payment card industry) audit on our website, but it was completely useless as we don't process credit card payments on our platform, that's done by our…

No contact to cancel interview

Had an interview this morning with a train company. I lost my voice on Friday and on Saturday morning I decided to let them know I probably wouldn’t make it, in the hopes I could reschedule. Realised there is absolutely NO point of contact. No email, no phone number, not even a name or chatbot. I had to tweet the company to get an email which I’m guessing isn’t manned over the weekend as I’ve had no reply in nearly 24 hours. Yesterday I thought I’d just go in and explain the situation in person but this morning I’m feeling shit as well as voiceless. I just think it’s so disrespectful to not even give me some form of contact and I wanted to email them with a complaint about that but my boyfriend talked me down and i just sent them an email saying sorry I can’t get in…

There is just no point

See title. I am frustrated beyond belief. I'm a 33 year old guy in the Netherlands for reference. I did everything right. Started working shit jobs nobody else would touch at 13. Did the right education ( BSC./B-Eng Mechanical Engineering + Honors programme), did all the top internships including multinationals, aersospace and for the Ministry of Defense. I Worked 12 hours per day engineering in an ancient, crumbling steel mill where I literally saw people getting maimed or die young due to poor working conditions and industrial accidents. Now I work in a hospital, where I am responsible for all non-medical engineering in said hospital (water, HVAC, electricity etc.) and two clinics in nearby villages. On top of that, I have my own small business in leatherworking and 3d-printing/design. I also do firebreating/firedancing/entertainment on festivals on the weekends to earn extra money now and then. By all means, I should…

I don’t know who needs to hear this but corporations are NOT YOUR FRIEND!

If they delay your paycheck for even a couple days you have every right to get angry and demand it. If they delay it for more than a week or two weeks, threaten them with a lawsuit and say your lawyer will be in touch with their legal team (even if you don't have a lawyer still say it, it will make them piss their pants). You're not there to make friends, you're there to do the job you're assigned and leave at the end of the shift. Don't EVER work more than the task you were assigned. And don't ever do something that's not stated in your contract of employment. If they try to force it on you, tell them it's not in your contract and If they try to fire you for it, you're entitled to compensation. Don't make the same mistakes I did, I was too nice…

Calling out employers for underpaying their employees.

So today I had a phone interview, and at the end I told them my salary requirements. “We can't meet that. That's more than we are paying our two existing employees in that role.” they said. To which I answered, “Then perhaps you are underpaying your employees. We both know that my skills are in demand. Doubly so in this town.” The manager thought for a second and said, “I guess we're done here.” I replied, “Yes, I guess we are. Except you can count on me contacting your existing employees and telling them they are underpaid. You have a nice day.” then I hung up. We have to give these assholes no quarter. They want wage slaves for nearly nothing. Misinformation and lack of communication between employees are their main weapons.
