My boss is crazy

Hi, I (24M) work at a gas station in MN that’s fairly well known in the midwest for at least appearing to be a well mannered establishment. I have this General Manager, you see who ever sense i started, I’ve only ever heard bad things about unless you are on the morning shift (except for one instance). Ive been told by multiple coworkers that she had berated employee who filled in from a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STORE to the point of crying that the morning shift manager walked out. I’ve watched her starve the night shift of extra hands so that only two people are in the store(one in kitchen and one on sales floor) and they only get three people on a Wednesday, the LEAST busiest day of the week for us on night shift when they could schedule another person Saturday when the one kitchen worker has to make…

Feeling guilty about calling out when we have a skeleton crew and manager and owner were at a funeral

I work a minimum wage job at a franchise. It’s always been really friendly and almost like a second home for me but the owners haven’t been breaking even so we only have like 8 employees right now. I had to call out today cause I had a breakdown (worst one I’ve had in years, I’ve been having panic attacks every couple of minutes). Honestly horrible timing because the owners and our manager (the manager is the owners mother) were at a funeral and they had to leave early cause no one could cover my shift. I feel really bad but also in the back of my head I can’t help but think it’s not my fault that we have 8 employees. Any advice or input would be helpful

Fuck you Western Peaks Logistics for being jerks when things happened on the road, even if some of it was my fault

Pic 1). So this was completely my fault, I backed into a customer’s car with a company truck. I’m not denying that. This was definitely an accident. Pic 2.) I got stuck in some mud and despite no damage to the van, they still counted that as an accident. Oh well, nothing I could do about it. They kept threatening a suspension but never actually did it. Pic 3) I was driving on a two lane road and saw a wide tractor trailer coming in the oncoming lane so I moved into the right shoulder to avoid it, and this fucker still came over on me and clipped off my side mirror. I called and reported it immediately and they said it had to have been my fault. I was chastised for not turning around and chasing the guy down, but no way was I gonna do that with no…

Incompetent Upper Management

Ugh I am on probation due to the fact that I essentially received inadequate training, lack of support and poor communication. Upper management is a flop who blames their incompetence on me. I work for a large cosmetic brand and I can’t rely on anyone to help me especially not my supervisor bc he is clueless on how the company operates yet i feel like I am the fall guy. I’m pretty hurt and can’t wait to find another job with a better environment (hopefully that exists somewhere ). I appreciate any words of encouragement or if you’ve been in the same Position.

The way that “wealth whispers” is used on Reddit is telling…

I see the phrase used in a way that makes me think that a lot of Redditors think that being rich automatically makes you better than the plebs. It's almost universally touted as a positive attribute of wealthy people that they aren't tacky and expressive. What do you think this phrase and its usage on Reddit says about the way people feel about wealth?

Manager schedules me one day a week then schedules me on a day I’m not available. Then says it’s her fault but it is my responsibility to find someone to cover me

This was a few years ago when I worked two jobs, since they were only scheduling me one day a week. We had our mandatory seasonal meeting where we provided our new availability. She then schedules me the next week outside of my availability, I lose the shift since I can't come in. New schedule for the following week finally comes out and she does it again. Now I am upset and let her know it. She goes on to tell me it is my responsibility to find coverage even though she said it was her mistake. I transfer to a different store the following week.

Hardship is baked into the solutions

I had a chance to ask a couple of investment advisors why increases in the Fed's interest rates are supposed to reduce inflation. I mean, I would think this makes a lot of stuff more expensive. It was agreed that the Fed's lending rates are tied to lending rates on credit cards, loans and mortgages. If the Fed's interest rate goes up, the interest rates on all these things goes up along with it. It was also agreed that businesses and sectors that are cash-heavy and would have been borrowing free money while interest rates were near-zero would now be looking to reduce expenses which invariable results in lay-offs and firings (looking at you, big tech) now that the interest on that borrowed money keeps going up with no clear end in sight. Payroll is nearly always the biggest single expense for a business. From my point of view, the…

Excuse to miss several days of work

I’m going through a miscarriage and I have a few important meetings/ presentations at work this week. For personal reasons I do not want to tell my employer it is a miscarriage. I also don’t want to say, something came up and I need to take off. I’d like to come up with a plausible excuse of an illness that would happen last minute and require me to miss 3-4 days of work. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really don’t want to hear comments about “just tell them the truth” or “you don’t owe an explanation for missing work”. I know that should be that way, but unfortunately isn’t and I am not at a place I want to test this right now.

I work in a coffee shop with a 160% employee turnover rate

Not sure if this is the right subreddit, but I'll go ahead with it anyway. I (17m) work in a coffee shop in the UK, which has been open for ~10 months. I have been working there since – when we first opened, we had 8 staff (excluding the manager). Now we have 3 staff, 3 of them handed their notice this week. The staff turnover rate is incredibly high. I get paid just above minimum wage for my age category but I have plenty of savings. I desparately want to quit my job as I really don't enjoy working there anymore. My mum says I should continue until I move out for university otherwise 'it'll look bad on my CV and I'll have no income'. I understand her reasons but I think they are not strong enough reasons to stay at all. What are your thoughts on this situation?…
