WTF HR?

Talking to the supervisor of the department of about 25 people next to mine. Said I hadn't noticed his lead and another team member around for about a month. He told me there was a problem between his lead and HR. I didn't ask what it was., But he said HR wasn't willing to work with the lead and was let go. The supervisor was pissed about it said the lead who hadn't missed a day in 12 years and was a good employee. I always saw the guy very busy. Sounds like he thought HR was being very unreasonable. Turns out the other employee who was the supervisors #2 thought the lead getting let go was unjust and quit over it. So the department lost the supervisor's #1 and #2 over something with HR. This department is a big money maker. I'm wondering what this issue was that HR…

Is all of hiring just box ticking and hoop jumping

If you think about all the hours wasted on advertising roles that are for internal promotions (ghost jobs) All the wasted hours for the companies just “going through the motions” as the job is for someone else Not to mention the candidates that go into these BS interviews thinking they have a chance, just think about the mental toll there as well Then there’s the places that are too scared to make a decision so they have candidates go through six/seven interview processes Just so someone has met a KPI somewhere and a box has been ticked to say “yes we did that thing” I really don’t get why there is so much time and energy ploughed into this risk aversion when, even after someone has got a job they’re then on probation for 6 months where they’re on two weeks notice (I’m from Europe) Think about all the time…

After 5 interviews, I was rejected by an automated no-reply email. Afterward, they requested more free labor from me.

A story about my experience interviewing with a company that doesn't support its potential employees bettering themselves via grad school. I'm paid poverty wages at my current job and after I was denied a raise last year due to company financial struggles, I started looking for another job in January. The job market is brutal, so I haven't found anything yet, but I've made it far in several rounds of interviews. A few months ago, I began interviewing for a company that we'll call BS. I had 4 really great, really successful interviews, and after round 3, anytime I would communicate with them, they told me I'd hear the following week about a job offer. The job was basically what I've been doing for 4.5 years post-grad, but with a new company and new (higher) salary, though the salary was def at the bottom end of the range my experience…

New jobs wants me to work 50 hours a week

I’m on the fourth interview for a new job I’m hoping to get. Twice, two different interviewers have made it clear that they expect more than 40 hours of work a week. I brought up that they must have inefficiencies in their system if they require more than 40 hours a week. They disagreed. As I would be running much of the operation I plan to a) negotiate a wildly overvalued salary because fuck them, and b) make the operation so efficient that everything will be done in less than 40 hours, but get the hourly employees still paid for 40. Antiwork management needs to be the standard, and together we’ll make the world a better place.

How does one score one of those cushy tech jobs where the office is like an adult playground and you make six figures doing basically nothing all day?

We’ve all seen the videos of silicon Valley employees where the offices are designed like giant fun-spaces for adults. The employees basically show up whenever they want, doing seemingly inconsequential tasks (took a meeting that had no intrinsic value, hung out in a board room doing nothing but socializing with the other lucky employees) take lunch at the super nice modern cafeteria with 3-star Michelin food, go unwind for a bit in the red room and then head home. Also they get paid a shitload as they have to make that much to afford living anywhere near Silicon Valley. Where do I put in my application?

Gf not paid after month of working @ dunkin?

My gf (f24) started working at Dunkin a month ago and she was supposed to be paid yesterday but her boss said there was a problem with the paperwork and she'll have to wait another two weeks before she'll actually see her pay. My gf got an acknowledgement of acceptance email about the paperwork when she first started working but her boss insists that my gf made an error and there's nothing they can do about it. I'm just not sure how they expect people to get by after not being paid for a month and a half. Recently she's had co workers blatantly stealing and $5k machinery breaking and being replaced. Is there really nothing her boss can do? She's considering not showing up until she's paid but she wants to keep this job.

Company just sold.

Hello Friends, I have the best job I've had in my life. The pay is great. My supervisor is the best. By team is fun and supportive. I am fully remote, which is crucial to my family. I have no complaints currently. The owners of the company have just sold it to a larger firm. I work with very specialized software and have been doing it for many years. To have a contractor do what I do cost 5 times as much as I do, so I've been valuable to my company. The buyers however do not use that software. It is unclear if they are to leave us as independent as possible or to fold us into their systems. I am worried they may bring someone else to handle whatever software they use and let me go. Or I may have the opportunity to expand my repertoire. Even more…

Set schedules

I’m very lucky to have a set schedule where I know exactly what shifts/days I work every week. No surprises and easy to plan around. But what’s up with never being able to ask for a day off? I’ve given months notice of a specific day I need (that I am willing to trade for another day so that I’m not missing any hours) and it’s like pulling teeth. A few years ago even working in retail pharmacy they gave me whatever days I wanted as long as it was a few weeks out. Now my current boss has made our schedule all the way through half of 2024 which makes it seem like I’m not able to ask for any time off unless it’s after that… they tried to make me take everyone’s holiday shifts (thanks giving, Labor Day) as compensation for giving me the day off but they…

The pay is $16-$26 an hour!

And that was a lie. Well sort of. They definitely offered $16 an hour. I'm 34 years old with healthcare experience as a med tech in a senior living (only 9 months, but it's experience), I have two degrees (associates) in healthcare. I have my pre-nursing degree and am applying to colleges This hospital, for a patient transport, says that I don't have enough experience. I'm a great fit for the job but I'll be starting at $16 an hour. I live in California, $16 an hour will net you a nice warm cozy box in the gutter. And they didn't even validate my parking!
