This happened several years ago. I work in an industry that has various sides to it and depending which side the work you must be specially licensed. In the side of the industry I work everyone knows each other either personally or by reputation so it's important to remain on good terms with everyone because you don't know who you could be working with or for tomorrow. It's also worth noting clients are very relationship driven and tend to follow the people if they leave. I was recruited by a family owned company I knew well. They weren't strong on my side of the industry, but had a great reputation in all other aspects and they were looking to build business on my side. I was hired to help restructure our side of the house to make it competitive in our market. It was an exciting opportunity and I'd been…
Month: August 2023
I have GCSEs, A Levels and experience working in Admin, Customer Service and office settings. I've been on unemployed and on Universal Credit since the contract of my Admin Kickstart scheme ended in Nov 2021. I do want a job and I do want to work. But in a decent job like Admin, Receptionist, IT etc. Not interested in doing dead end jobs that are minimum wage and have no progression like retail, working in restaurants, pouring coffee, packaging shelves at Tesco etc. I've applied to like well over 2000 jobs. The very few interviews I have got were unsuccessful. They either just sent me those automated emails saying you didn't make it. Or don't even get back to me. My last interview was a Receptionist Apprenticeship. They didn't want to hire me because based off a 2 hour work trial, they thought my customer service skills were too formal…
Got told to work on my own time
Im a supervisor at work and at the end of the night I was doing stocktake. Id cleaned my work station and everyone else was cleaning theirs so I decided to do stocktake so I wasn’t low on produce for today. Not even 3 minutes in the other dude who works with me and is apparently a supervisor waltzes in and goes off at me for doing stocktake while everyone else is doing close. On the one hand I understand, close is annoying but we also had 5 people doing their close stuff in a tiny ass restaurant. I was going to be taking up space if I was just sitting in the kitchen waiting for everyone to leave before I do it. He said that I should be doing it “on my own time” instead of holding everyone else back. I wasn’t. I was done with everything I needed…
I work at a midsized organization. A position opened up and the company advertised it for internal hires only. Sounds great, I'm interested in the work, it would be a promotion, and a 25% pay bump. My boss's boss tells me to apply and that I would be a good fit. I am one of four applicants. If I'm being honest probably the third most qualified of those who applied. The top two have their interviews with the head of my organization and the number two and the head and number two of the organization this position would be directly working with. My interview comes around, it's just the boss for my organization and the number two from the partner organization. They come in unprepared, it seems like they haven't read any of my documents. Its a waste of my time, their time and so disrespectful. If I'm not going…
BIL is moving from a welding position to a job in Quality at same company, but taking pay cut? I immediately thought it was weird to hear this position change results in lower pay, am I wrong in thinking so? It’s not a demotion, but it seems ridiculous that my brother-in-law is finally getting off the manufacturing floor and into the office, but has to take a pay cut to do so.
Fired for doing what i was told
I had been an apprentice carpenter since February of this year. 2 weeks ago, i was put on a probation period where everything I did was heavily looked over because I left a job with admittedly poor quality work due to lack of training for the specific task at hand, or supervision, and needing to use equipment i was not qualified, or thoroughly trained to use, under an operating condition the equipment specifically states not to use it (on an extreme incline, the tip over warning alarm was going off for 3 days straight) After expressing my discomfort toward using said equipment while its literally telling me to not do what im doing, as well as feeling like i was forced to finish the job on an unrealistic deadline and having to be on site 4 hours past my normal leave time, due to the unrealistic deadline. Moving forward, I…
My work fired me effective immediately and listed a bunch of concerns I’ve never heard before or seen documented. Meanwhile the company is going through some major financial issues. Now it seems I’m not eligible for unemployment. How is this fair or legal?
EDIT: I see “illegal” was bad to use in the title becuase apparently its a keyword for a single conclusion. Please no more “Get a lawyer” and nothing else comments (if you can't see other comments posting that is because I put this on multiple subs). I can't, here's why; 1. I have been on SSP for months (uk), it doesn't pay enough to live I can't afford a lawyer. 2. I have immense communication issues I would struggle to speak to one and probably not be able to provide proper info to them, I have no friends/fam that can do this for me so I'm on my own here. 3. I'm chronically fatigued, i don't leave my home at all, I know there's no lawyers in my suburb so nearest would be city centre over an hour away from home, impossible. 4. I'm mentally fatigued, I don't sleep, I…
