Just as the title says. I worked in at least 2 safety sensitive positions. Currently a manufacturing technician at a Pharmaceutical plant and was previously hole watching in confined spaces in a cement plant. These workers are expected to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, etc. When they are tired and overworked, that's how mistakes are made. There's all sorts of stress. Eagerness to go home, worrying about being in shape for the next day and so on and so forth. When they are dealing with heavy machinery, how are they expected to run operations smoothly? It doesn't make sense to overwork these people. In pharmas, high product quality is obviously expected. It's quite difficult to achieve this when exhausted.

Why yes, I absolutely want a cheap pair of sunglasses (that I can’t even use because they’re not prescription), instead of being paid more. Thank you so very much Mr. Boss Man.
The title sorta explains it. I (23 F) work 8 hrs a day and get 1 unpaid 30 min break I was fully booked that day so I just wanted to step out and get something to eat… I was driving in a suburban area going the speed limit but apparently that was too slow because the race car behind me decided to speed around me then step on his breaks so that I would hit him. He then got out of the car started hitting mine hit me then threw a drink and the bottle in my face. He sped off I didn’t get his license plate everything happened so quickly. I was right around the corner from work so I went back and told my coworkers what had happened l was inconsolable I called the police they said they were on their way my coworker called my manager…
Literally just went through a pretty dehumanizing situation at work yesterday. I have visual problems and am legally blind. My glasses broke. Asked my sup if there was any screen reading software I could use because I could not see the text, got told no, no other accommodation was offered. Asked if I would get points for not coming in because I literally cannot see and need to wait for a new pair to come in. They literally told me “well I can just walk into a dollar store and get a pair of reading glasses so really there’s no excuse as to why you can’t come in.” “You not being able to see is a you problem not a company problem.” Said okay but I literally cannot just walk into a $ store because TLDR my eyes are fucked (cataracts, inflamed optic nerve, macular degeneration, myopia, astigmatism, strabismus, presbyopia,…
I make 55K$ with bonus, my work as a HubSpot consultant is usually sold at 100$/h I work for enterprise customers only and do about 200 hours of tracked work per week. But yeah asking for 3 weeks off in December is too much. A coworker had a baby and asked for a month, they told him it was excessive.
Jobs use fear ( fear of being fired, not promoted, no raise) to control you. All these things are valid concerns , however you can’t let that control you. The worst possible thing that can happen is death and that will eventually happen anyway. While it’s completely normal and understandable to let these fears dictate your decisions you also need to Stick up for yourself and stop living on your knees. You may not own the company but you own yourself and should prioritize yourself accordingly. Again, I understand the dynamics as I experience them daily just as you all do but i think we should all stand tall and stop putting ourselves in a position of weakness. Speak your truth, do what is best for you and tell that person who keeps bothering you at work to fuck off. (But Be smart about it)
Techniques for Not Caring
Hi all, I'm a high school teacher and absolutely love the portion of my work life which is nurturing and caring for young people, but despise all the fake professionalism, internal politics, bosses, finances etc etc and in the last year it's led to me being suicidal for the first time in a decade. My question is, regardless of the work place, what techniques do you use or rely on to zombie your way through the day and go home without taking so much shit and trauma with you? To be clear: I'm not saying here that I want to be a let down to the kids, because that is not what I'm about at all. I run loads of extra curricular clubs and look after the vulnerable nerdy kids, and am really well liked by the students. My superiors, however, have it in for me, and I don't have…
Surprisingly, many of the writers and actors pouring their hearts into making the shows you love – aren’t even earning enough to qualify for health insurance. All while corporate shareholders reap their multibillion-dollar rewards.
