Hello. I have been actively reading other people's story and finally decided to tell mine. I finished my bachelor's degree at the end of July 2019 but I wasn't able to clear it because I had failed an exam, so I wasn't able to study ahead and I kept drifting for about an year and half and I had to pay debts and then my dad's friend got me this supervisor job at a small PVC pipe company. I started having decent salary, relative to the geographical area but soon I realised that even though I liked the job but I hated the timing and the bosses. I was working 13-14 hours everyday and I didn't have any days off at all. This kind of thing is very common in India because workers have no real rights and I was desperate at the time, as I had to not only…

Rant: Roster not honouring my contract
Hi i have a big ongoing headache regarding my roster/management. For some background I work at one of the biggest retail chains in the country and I recently (a month ago) had my contract changed from casual to permanent part time. I am also currently getting paid the permanent hourly rate and not the casual rate for the record. The issue however is that when I consented to the contract change it was under the agreement that I would only be working 20hours per week (due to difficult/stressful family circumstances at the moment) but I keep getting rostered on for waaaay more than that. For example, this upcoming week I've been rostered on for 45 hours of work over the week, six days a week with the week after that being 37 hours, five days a week. Surely this shouldnt be allowed? I thought employers had to abide by employee…
I had a job interview for a junior developer position. The interviewer told me that if they like me, they’ll keep me. They sent me a job offer for an 9 hour job ( includes unpaid 1 hour break ) right now I am working remotely for 8 hours. I had a car accident and the new job requires me to attend in office. I am legally handicapped at this point and I cannot walk let alone drive. Any tips?
Love my Job, Hate Workplace Politics.
I work in manufacturing. I love the actual work that I do, it's hands on, different every day, satisfying, and I've gotten good at it. But I can't fucking stand the politics at work and all the company red tape. My team consist of 10 guys with a lead and an middle manager. The guys I work with are all pretty great except for my lead and my boss. My lead is a dick, a two-face, and in general, a really difficult person to work with. It's his way or the highway and he will gladly throw anyone else under the bus to get ahead. He also sucks up to management. My boss is incompetent, lazy, and doesn't know anything about what we do, so much so in fact that the lead has to babysit her meetings all day. She is practically useless but got the job because of her…
I (f) used to love my job and my co-workers – especially my manager (m). I’m a manager of a department. My manager and I got along amazingly. He treated me with respect, we often went out to lunch together, and he always included me in the day to day conversations. He was my ‘work husband’. For context – we are both married and know each other’s spouse’s – relationship is strictly platonic. Roughly 6 weeks ago my mother passed away after a long illness. I took a few days off. When I returned my boss gave me a hug and asked how I was. The next day he came to me needing something. I didn’t have what he wanted but I told him where I thought one might be. He must have not liked the answer and asked it again and I repeated myself. He snapped back a reply…
Frustrated fruit
My first job was a temporary job for a certain holiday fruit company. The hours I signed up for were 7am-4pm or 07:00-16:00. That was fine with me and I was making minimum wage. I was told that I'd have a few days with longer shifts and I'd be paid overtime. Little did I know, they'd be working my ass for the last week of my job, from 7am to 9pm or 07:00 – 21:00. It was not worth it. Everything in my bones hurt. My fingerprints wore off on few fingers, I broke my toenail inside of my work boots and my supervisor was racist. It also had to be in 2020 of all years.
A company asked me where I was born despite giving me a translation test. I’d imagine I did well on the translation test since this question seems to determine whether I’ll get hired or not, or at least whether I’ll continue in the hiring process. They said: “The hiring team asked this question – it is one of the requirements we have for candidates so we would like to confirm that you are native born speaker of Spanish (not US born). I would just like to confirm this.”” I’m not a native speaker of Spanish but I have a masters and part of a PhD in Hispanic linguistics. I’m fluent and the language test should’ve determined if I was suitable for the position. These are the requirements. I’m realizing now that they probably also wanted me to have a degree from a Spanish-speaking country, which I do not have. Edit:…
They’re not out to get me or anything and not mean or yelling but when I have a question it feels like I’m annoying them or I get dismissed. My concerns are overlooked. Other people get treated “nicer than me” I’m not trying to be friends with them or anything but I don’t like how when I go to them for something I feel miserable after talking to them. Do I just keep my head down and earn this check? Or new job? You ever been in a situation like this?
Parents Kinda Pushing Me
So I've been taking a few months from working after 5 years of working in toxic restaurant environments, so I'm taking time off for my mental wellbeing(burnout). I contribute to the household, do chores, yard work, ect, and give them rent. Right now I'm in a spot in my life where I don't know what I'm doing for a career yet and have enough in savings to last a year, maybe more, and they keep pushing me into factory work, like right now. Their old school senior parents, paper application and resume, just show up ask for a job, the list goes on. Now I have applied to a few of these jobs, but no one had contracted me yet. I've applied to these jobs before at 18 because they have been pushing me to do this since I turned an adult, 22 now. I got a few interviews then, but…
