Probably about to get fired bc I’m not enthusiastic enough

This morning my manager called me into her office to have a check in, I'm still in training, and long story short unless I can prove myself Sunday I'm getting let go. She said “this isn't just a job, you have to think of it as your life” bruh. Every job is just a job. I'm realizing my mistake of taking this, getting paid minimum wage for three weeks isn't exactly enthusiam inducing. Just because I'm not screaming with excitement (literally) to be there I'm getting let go. I'm gonna find something else to do online, curious if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Work depresses me

I just started a office job after working in customer service for the past seven years. I was, at first, happy about the idea of having a desk job where I don’t have to constantly be on my feet all day for 40 hrs a week. I thought I just didn’t like working in retail, but I have a feeling I will hate this job too. I’m extremely exhausted. I don’t want to work. One of my good friends died in a work accident recently and it just makes it worse ugh

Education, Capitalism, and Superspecies

There was a joke made in an episode of The Jetsons that in the future we’ll be ‘breaking our backs’ by working just 3 hours a day. Yet we work more hours now than those from hunter-gatherer societies.

I hace 2 weeks left of work.. should I continue being a great employee or should I stop caring

After many empty promises, my contract ends at the end of month. There were many signs of them not keeping the promises they made but I didn’t notice until now when I look back. I have been doing so much for this stupid job, there are many deliverables that are due before my contract is done. Should I even care about finishing them? Would I get in trouble if I stop? Is a good recommendation still something to strive for nowadays?

Put in my notice, attempted to withdraw it. Was denied and has been treated like shit since

My current employer has been mine since i was 17. I have dedicated the last 4 years or so of my life to them, however I accepted a new position with another company last week. I have been having problems with this company ever since January, when my doctor placed me on a medical leave. I had to get a bunch of paperwork filled out by a doctor stating why I was off work and what it limited, and when my paperwork showed it was for Mental Health reasons my short term disability was denied as “we do not cover laziness and relaxation” Quick thing to note, the second you go on a leave your paycheques are supposed to stop while awaiting approval for short term disability. Mine didn’t for the first 2 checks. Mind you, I have Bipolar disorder and my brain does not process stress properly. I could…

Interview frustration

Someone at a startup reached out to me on LinkedIn saying I'd be a great fit for a role based on my skills and experience and that I should apply. I applied and found out it was a 4 stage interview. The 1st being a 30m call to talk about my interest and passion for the org and the role. The lady asked me why I would want to work there and why I want to do the role and my greatest achievement. I today got an email saying I didn't display the key competencies clearly. Even though there werent questions about competencies. This is so frustrating when one person saw my experience and skills and recognised I'd be a good fit only for this one lady to say this.

My Manager works on sick leaves and vacation days

I find this so incredibly odd. Everytime my manager is on a sick leave, they come online to check messages and send replies. They also keep checking their email and sending replies. Like you’re not feeling well?!? You’re on a sick leave?!? The work can wait. It’s not like we’re doing rocket science and the entire company will collapse without your workaholism. If I am not feeling well, I can’t make myself available to even speak to friends and family, let alone for WORK. Even a common cold can make a person exhausted and you will need rest to recover. How my manager stays obsessed with work during sick leaves and vacation days is beyond my imagination. Some people act like they own the company.

Walked out on the spot

When I was still in school I worked at a restaurant and bar, that also had pizza open late. I told her when I got hired on that I had a family trip planned, and would need five days off in the middle of the summer for my Grandfathers 80th birthday. I had been enjoying my time there, and really liked the pizza. Around a month in the schedule came out that I had requested off. I was scheduled for the pizz station that whole weekend, and was told they were going to be busy and now couldn’t give me the time off. She said because I was good at the pizza station she needed me and wouldn’t hear about my trip again, and stormed off to the bar. It was unfortunate because, again I liked the pizza, not because I had any affinity towards my boss. I walked back…

It does get better

I want to start by saying that it does get better. I am not sure if this is the right sub for this but I wanted to give some hope. I know it’s a long read but I hope its worth it. I started as a millwork estimator in 2005 with a salary of 35k a year. The president and CFO were great mentors. After abot 2 years the business closed. It was a great experience. I then went to work for my uncle estimating Glass. He was a good person but a real hot head. Every time I would get a new client he would flip out on them for one thing or another. I realizes it was time to move on. I went to work for a drywall contractor that did residential and commercial drywall. This is where things get interesting. I was hired there at 45k a…
