After 8 years of working in an office and losing my job. I came to a crossroads in my life where I was offered by a bank to be a senior accountant for 80k per year and on the other hand a friend offered me a job for $15 an hour to help start his music instrument repair business. I was listening to an album by a band called “The Dear Hunter” at the time and this one song called “Middle Class” came on. Many of the lyrics resonated with me because they described exactly how I felt working my mundane accounting job looking at spreadsheets every single day. The lyrics: “So when you are assigned to turn one and one to three. Do your job or go the way of the refugee Like most of us, you'll come to see that we may never leave But if we could…
Month: August 2023
I am out there, enjoying life, given the days off I was meant to, on a train. Supervisor rings: “Are you coming in at all, it's gone 12? There is a delivery” Me: …”Say what now? I'm not on until the weekend??” S: “Boss changed the roster, didn't you see? Yes. But only my coworker seemed affected from what I saw on your texts, I'll come in tomorrow to make up for it” Some hours later I walk into the store and sort out their confusion, they seem to be under the impression that “flexi time” means “calling me at the 11th hour to disrupt my personal time” They just naturally assumed that I would immediately check the roster to see if I was on or not. If they texted or rang to ask, it would have been way easier. I am also put on weekends, solely so the manager…
Stupid “customer first” mentality
My boyfriend came home from a long day at work and told me that he was irritated with his job. So the store he works at closes at 7pm, and this older lady was in there 30-40 minutes after closing and apparently him and another manager told her that this store is closed and they offered to help her with whatever she needed to make the process of her leaving the store quicker. Of course she took offense to it, and called the store manager and complained about them the next day. The store manager had a talk with them and basically told them that they are not aloud to tell customers to leave the store or even say that the store is closed and that they are required to stay in the store until the customer leaves unless it’s past 10pm because the customer “always comes first”….. and if…
Saw a Tiktok from a single mom that only eats peanut butter toast on the days when her daughter is staying with her father, so that there is real food available for the kid when she's home. Jesus. Also, donating plasma is the modern equivalent of selling hair and teeth to pay the rent.
The office was located in a weird location in a building. I didn’t think it was worth mentioning to the interviewer, but I found out in their response that it was an issue even though they liked me otherwise. I guess I’m sharing this to warn y’all not to be late at all
The second semester is where you file for bankruptcy and can't afford kids.
This is merely an analysis but I’m pushing this out to share that we should be looking at pushing UBI into state legislation to get it to people who need it and to give those who can’t work, a fair shot at rising out of and avoiding poverty. Of course businesses will want to fight against it and Congress will be critical at it and not want to spend money on it. But it should be seen as something to push for. Especially with inflation going up and constant poverty. It should be supported. (This is a discussion, open Discussion is Encouraged)
So since opening our store we have went through 3 managers, two left voluntarily and one got fired. Our team has been complaining for months about different Issues we have as well as mentioning the need for a department meeting with our merch manager and upper management but our current management team refuses to address issues directly and instead likes to talk about people behind our backs and do nothing so tonight we took matters into our own hands. We as a team decided to walk out of the job as a show of force. I know we might get fired or at least reprimanded but screw it, it’s better than dying from a heart attack or stroke at a young age.
