Especially for men. The fact that anyone is still expected to wear long sleeves and pants in hot weather is utterly ridiculous I'm someone who sweats a lot more than most people. It's been a hot summer and I've been wearing shorts to work most days, it's important to my comfort and I also feel like I'm saving the people around me having to deal with how bad I'd smell if I was sweating as much as long pants would make me sweat. I work in an office so it's not at all a safety issue. There's also several other people who sit in the same area as me who wear shorts most of the summer. We've been having the hottest week so far this summer out here in the northwest, and today on the fourth work day in a row it's been 90+ degrees my boss decided to pull…
Month: August 2023
The U.S isn’t a country it’s a company.
The wealthy run it, the politicians are middle-management, and the people are the workers.
What’s your worst interview experience?
Mine was an interview I had about 3.5 years ago and I still feel annoyed. There was 2 interviewers and one of the interviewers couldn’t have looked more disinterested pretty much from the start, he was on his phone the whole time and his colleague kept looking at him with “get off your phone” eyes. As you probably guessed, thankfully I didn’t get the job but this experience has stuck with me.
Got fired today…
And I couldn't be happier. I hated that job so much. 90% of it was sitting at my desk monitoring emails and 10% was doing actual work. I was so incredibly bored every day. They fired me because one job was done late and someone had to pay for it. After saving the company a lot of money by switching vendors and streamlining the intake process for them. One little slip up and boom I'm gone. F them. I literally just finished my degree last week. Now I get to sit comfortable on unemployment benefits while I take time to find a job I actually want to do. Best thing that could have happened to me.
I’m 35 years old. I went to a 2 year technical college after graduating high school. I’ve been working as a medical coder, biller, and front desk lead at doctors offices for about 11 years. All of this was on the job training, no school needed. I just moved to a new town and picked a medical front desk receptionist job that was offering a great schedule. Only HS diploma needed. This position would be a step down for me technically, but I’m taking it because I’m self studying to test for a higher medical coding degree. I had to do a background check- the email from HR specifically stated “do not add technical colleges or vocational schools under education”. Not sure why??? But fine, I left it out. HR and background check place blowing me up for the last 2 days to submit any pictures of my diplomas AND…
Thombert, Inc. workers fighting back!
What the title says. I’m a longtime cook/chef, recently relocated back to the east coast and took a sous job at the start of the year. Pay/benefits are decent, though the salary was $5k less than what I’d asked for even though the Exec said “yeah, we can do that” (when the offer letter came and I confronted him about it he said, “yeah, that plus bonuses”). I already requested a raise once which I received last month, which did not even meet my initial amount. Fast forward to today when I received one of said bonuses, which was roughly half of what I was led to expect I’d be getting. To top it off, it was taxed. Maybe it’s just that I’m new to this side of things, but is this normal? Edit: I suppose commenting on the fact that it was taxed was foolish, but being in the…
I was threatened by a coworker.
So,heres the long and skinny of it. I work maintenance for a large commercial property, one of my co-workers is a very fringe conspiracy theorist whos makes claims like “the world is ending in 2024 because of planet x” and “theres 70 ft giants living in the artic the government knows about” which whenever he starts his rants I either tune him out or shrug it off. Today he was sitting in our shared office watching youtube videos about “how to load an AR-15” and numerous videos of people test firing guns, I saw this as a tad concerning so i mentioned it to my immediate supervisor under the pretext “this could be nothing or it could be something” ( i am ok with guns, own 2 myself, just that sorta of material in a commercial office setting is a little inappropriate) my supervisor understood my concern and said they would mention something…
