As in the thread the other day about “why aren't you just leaving”. It's not like you can travel from US to Spain the same way you just take a car or plane from California to Florida And you can't just randomly “retire” in any county either, just must fulfill different income critera and sometimes prove knowledge about culture or language. I mean even though we have free movement in Europe you can stay for maximum 3 months in a country unless you have enough money or a job to support yourself. Sure there is no limit to it(so if you can survive on 200$ then fine) but even in between those rules exist on paper Is there some newspapers or something writing about this or why do people even have this idea?
Month: August 2023
I work in a place where I'm a lower level employee. I thought my direct supervisor was pretty chill so when he was telling me he absolutely can't stay and needed me to work a position for him I did, I did let him know that i had never worked this position before and that I wasn't trained. He said it was fine and to 'do what I can' just for today. Well I don't even have a login for the computer that I was supposed to use so it was hard to work around that but I did. Long story short I forgot something, it 'wasn't a big deal' in his words but he wrote me up for it and had a disciplinary meeting with me in front of several other people. In this same conversation I was told that I wouldn't get the increased pay (it's like 4-5…
The curiosity of a non-US lurker:
Long-time lurker on my main account, but I have a serious question or four for you guys: How do you lot foresee things changing for the better? What can/should be done? For those applicable, does having to work multiple jobs not massively impact your health/sanity? How do you balance work and… well… life? For some context, I am from a third world country with a terrible economy. $50k/year that some people seem to battle with is an absolute fortune when converted to my local currency. To compare, I earn approximately $25k/year when converted, working 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday) and while it isn't exactly the life of premium luxury, it's definitely in the upper middle class here. I can afford a nice house, good medical insurance, private schooling and most of the nicer (realistic) things I've seen in the American movies/TV. My heart goes out to those battling…
I laughed out a “no”. For context I work for a US branch of a korean company and I'm the only native english speaker on my team, which means I'm usually the one presenting in meetings. My manager, while being a nice and mostly understanding and patient guy, is also a whipped company man. He will always avoid rocking the boat if possible, often at his own expense, sometimes at others. I really hate having to advocate for myself at every turn, always being ready to fight for basic shit. How is that the first place your mind goes, rather than canceling or postponing the meeting? Like I don't blame him for doing what he does, he's probably scared for his job, his job also means his visa which puts his family and livelihood in danger. I do wonder how he'd feel about unionizing. UPS workers will soon make double…
If you don't feel like reading a novel, you might wanna turn away. It's long. I mean it 🤣 tldr: Service Management has no clue what we do, punishes me for things that aren't in my control, and expects 8 hour jobs to be halfway done in 2 hours. Not entirely sure how to handle management that's disrespectful and arrogantly ignorant. I'm sorry, but isn't the point of having an LLC to be that no one takes personal liability for things when it comes to business situations??? Wouldn't the proper kit for repairing something have been a tax write-off/business expense? and isnt it supposed to be that the CEO's LLC takes the risk of doing business as a mechanic shop??? Idk where the legalities of this mess lie, but any time something happens, im told I'm going to pay for it, even if it's something out of my control, and…
Title pretty much says it all. I work for a small business and I love the industry I work in and the job so I’ve stayed here for quite a while. I generally don’t have plans outside of work and pretty much go to work and go home mostly everyday. I have something I’d like to do on September 8th. Friday’s are generally a very busy day for us and my boss has his 40 year high school reunion to attend so he won’t be able to cover for me. For context I’m his only employee that he trusts to do everything thus I am the one stuck with the duty to come in. I feel like this outrageous. Super upsetting. Sorry for the shitty format. What would you suggest?
Turn about is fair play
TLDR at bottom I work for a parts company and my job is to deliver, pick up returns from the shops, take payment for COD shops. Several shops have a credit account with us and their accounts are either paid at end of Day, Week or Monthly. I’d like to note that these shops have been customers for a long time and the SM gives them a lot of leeway. And after working there for 3 months shy of 2 years, I know who to give the same leeway too. And 4 days per week, I scan & sort the retail inventory and the various parts to restock the shelves. And on one day is a pallet of oil, antifreeze, lubes, etc. so, that makes TWO pallets I have to scan in between deliveries. Now, keep in mind that I am in my late 40’s. I have a boomer mentality…
This is based on the recent posts about what people make. I started as a driver for a CNC manufacturing shop making $15 an hour. We’re a part of a larger company that works in the petrochemical industry but that had nothing to do with my job. I drove back and forth to Houston all day. 6 years later (with a background in retail management…) I worked my way in to a Quality Control position within the shop making $30 an hour or roughly $62,000 a year ($75k-80k including overtime.) I learned on the job and worked hard to get where I am. Just took a promotion to our corporate office. I’m not trying to knock on anyone’s life stories but I applied for a job at random and was able to work my way up to a decent place. Just curious why people stay in fields (even if you…
Hi there. I am not sure if this is the right place to post and I apologize in advance for any grammar mistakes ( english is not my main language). So, I am finishing a course ( not goign to specify which and I am doing an internship. So far so good. I dont want to give many details in case someone from the company is on Reddit but its sort of a startup. I am enjoying my work and my boss is kind of chill. I have commented at work how I am learning programming as I enjoy it. He said I could use some hours of the intership when I dont have a lot of work to learn it. This sounded really cool of him ( he is not paying me, the government is). So, I started doing it. On the meantime I had applied several months ago…
